New combo political action group forming in Detroit.
From an email:

Dear MoveOn member,
The new Congress that we helped elect is nearing a pivotal moment. Either we'll relapse into the nasty politics-as-usual, or we'll move forward into a new political era—an era where Congress moves forward to address global warming, the war in Iraq, and the other big issues.

So, we are launching "Mandate for Change"—our campaign to remind Congress to lead on the issues people voted for. In January, we will organize hundreds of visits to Congressional offices to brief them on our priorities and show that there is real grassroots support for changing the direction of the country. At the kick off event next Tuesday, we'll plan those meetings, and then go out and gather "photo petitions" to remind our reps of the real people who sent them to Washington.

One of these events is right near you in Saint Clair Shores. Here are the details:

Drinking Liberally Detroit
Where: Honest? John's, Selden at Second (in Detroit, MI)
When: Tuesday, December 5 2006, 7:00 PM

For months, MoveOn members have been saying that our government needs to focus on the big issues—getting us out of Iraq, fixing the health care and energy crises, restoring democracy and protecting the rights of all citizens. We have heard from you since the election that now is the time to move on these things. So, we'll use the kick off meeting to get to know each other and make a plan.

We have a historic opportunity now with a Congress willing to tackle these issues. But these folks are already under pressure from lobbyists and pundits and other Washington insiders to play it safe. It's our job to show them that they have the mandate from the voters to think big. Can you join other MoveOn members in your area for the Mandate for Change Campaign Launch?

With our great work on the election, we've started down the road to real change. Now we can make this country better than it has ever been.

Thanks for all you've done and will do to make it happen.

The bar, Honest? John's is a friendly place with nice people. I haven't been there in quite a while, but I know John, and he is "good people". His first bar was located on Jefferson by Belle Isle. This is the bar where Kerry visited during the Granholm campaign. I have signed up to attend. The parking area is secure, and John has a way of getting support from the neighbors (through the nice things he does for them) to keep his clientele safe and sound.

1. There's another one at Panera in Troy on Big Beaver
I signed up to attend that one. Sorry I won't get to see you.

By the way, the next state convention is scheduled for Saturday, February 24. No word yet as to whether it will be in Lansing or Detroit.

I went to our county convention on Monday and I'm now on the executive committee -- sort of by default. Our area was entitled to six delegates and we only had three people there,so we all got on the committee and put three other people who weren't there on.

2. That's sort of how I got to be on the Executive Board of our...
Bouvier Club. I missed a meeting.

Guess they taught me!

Let me know how your meeting goes, and I'll do the same.

Keep me posted on the state convention, too.
