Reform our election laws

May 5, 2005

THANK YOU for publishing the May 3 letter by Sheila Parks, ''The dangers of electronic voting." Many of us find it difficult to accept the fact that George W. Bush actually won the presidential election.

With highly partisan secretaries of state in both Florida and Ohio, and the extreme partisanship of the persons who manufacture the electronic voting machines, which provide no paper records, I fear that we will continue to live in an oligarchy.

The Republican-controlled House and Senate continue to stall the needed election reform bill because they believe that the existing law favors them and their party. If new meaningful legislation tightening up election procedures is not passed and signed by Bush, voting will indeed become meaningless.
