Patrick Campaign Breaks Website Records, Volunteers Signing On
http://www.devalpatrick.com/node/41

BOSTON, MA, April 22 - One week since the Deval Patrick Campaign was launched, over 500 people have signed on through www.devalpatrick.com to be volunteers on the campaign and more than 12,000 unique visitors have come to the site to read the story of Deval Patrick and sign up for fund raisers and other campaign activity.

“The response to our announcement has been nothing short of phenomenal,” said John Walsh, campaign manager for the Deval Patrick campaign. “We can see the groundswell and interest on the website and are excited about all the people who are attracted to Deval’s message of offering hope and opportunity to those who had given up on participating in their own futures and the future of the State,” Walsh added.

Robert Reich’s 1998 gubernatorial campaign set the previous Massachusetts standard of website activity. The Reich Campaign received 6,500 hits to their site in the first 24 hours. Deval’s www.devalpatrick.com site beat this record by almost 15% with 7,400 web hits in just 24 hours.

The data since Deval’s April 14th Announcement:

- Almost 1,500 people have downloaded Deval Patrick’s biography or viewed his video biography online
- Enough money was raised in the first 24 hours to pay for the Deval Patrick Campaign’s entire web development budget
- More than 12,000 unique visitors have come to www.devalpatrick.com
- More than 500 volunteers have signed up to work for the campaign

In addition to the website activity, the Deval Patrick campaign has continued to energize the Democratic base in Massachusetts and raised awareness among activists and independent voters.

Deval spoke to 300 potential Democratic delegates at Tuesday’s State Committee Meeting in Ayer. He inspired the audience with his new vision for Massachusetts and an emphasis on the Politics of Hope.

People attracted by Deval’s message for a change in Massachusetts are offering their support dollar by dollar. “We don’t just want to raise money,” Patrick said, “but we want to raise the grassroots.”

“The online groundswell of Internet activity tells me that people are ready to come back into the process,” says Deval Patrick. “I’ve been a leader in government, in business, and I’ve been a leader in non-profit and community work. These worlds can come together to help solve big problems in Massachusetts. People are ready for a change. And that’s why we see so many people coming to our site.”

1. right now i think he has a good idea
I really think an outsider has a good chance to get the people of Mass to move to a Democratic governor.

Reilly is an insider and a flip flopper already....from his equivocationon the gay marriage issue and hes way too connected with the current machine...just like Shannon O' Brien was...

Reform is the message...i was one of those volunteer signees....if Deval has the gumption to handle the intense pressure the Mass insiders will throw at him...then he's got my vote....

To be honest....Rommney is not the cloud over Patrick.....its how partisan this fight will turn out to be in the Democratic primary..

Like the two Dem candidates in Texas who have agreed to run a gentleman campaign against each other, the Dems for Mass Governor should agree to do the same now. The Texas Dems know the real enemy is Delay.....and destroying each other only to arrive battered and bruised for the general election against Delay is not good sense. Our enemy is Mitt
Romney....lets hit him with a reform and re-energize Mass message.

Mass citizens see us heading for a downturn...and the population slippage is beginning to hurt us nationally. We need the media to see the best that Mass Dems can offer...not a blood feud.

Will Deval Patrick run for governor?
The former Clinton administration official supports full marriage rights for same-sex couples
By Laura Kiritsy

<snip>

The 48-year-old Milton resident, who formerly served as assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division in the Clinton Administration and was a staff attorney at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, might fit the bill.

<snip>

A married father of two,
Patrick attributes his evolution on the issue of marriage rights for same-sex couples to his corporate experience with domestic partnership benefits and his own personal relationships. "I have close friends and others I've been around who are in relationships that look just like my marriage and had been for a long time; loving, stable," he explains. "So the practical issues around how to have and sustain a loving and stable relationship is something that I can recognize whether it's straight or gay."

Although he was a member of the White House staff in 1996, he says he did not support the decision of President Clinton - who has offered support to Patrick's potential candidacy - to sign the Defense of Marriage Act, which prevents federal recognition of same-sex marriages. While he declines to discuss the issue at any length on the record, Patrick says he was not involved in discussions about the legislation. "I will say that we got a number of things right in the administration and that wasn't one of them," he says.

Would a Deval Patrick administration get it right? Patrick, sounding a little like a declared candidate again, indicates a willingness to try. "I think that the governor sets a tone," he says when asked how he'd use the power of the corner office to advocate in favor of equal marriage rights. "I want a governor who sets a tone of inclusion, a tone of mutual respect. I think there are talents and contributions to be made, to be gained, in every community and I think you know, who is a part of the administration, where you place your emphasis, what you speak out against or in favor of are all about the tone you set."
