BROCKTON —
Cynda Williams brought her crop of organic eggs to the Brockton Farmer’s Market all the way from Acushnet on Friday.
It was the first time she came to the city to sell her produce.
“I got a really nice invitation from the mayor’s office,” she said as she displayed the multicolored eggs from her Clover Path Garden farm. “I need to expand my market, so I’m here.”
At its height, the farmer’s market in City Hall Plaza had seen as many as 10 farms, but in recent years it has only attracted two or three.
This summer’s market is a big step up from last year, as at least five are expected, according to Silvia Carvalho, the office manager in City Hall.
“We really wanted to give the people of Brockton a chance to get fresh, organic food they wouldn’t be able to find in the supermarket,” she said. “So we
tried very hard to attract more farms.”
The three farmers who came to the market on Friday saw brisk business, as most people were excited to see truly fresh produce.
