What a waste! Yesterday we had to take the T to Boston.
First experience w/Charlie Card. Since we do not use the T often, we needed to be shown the procedure. OK, that was simple enough. However.......

Why is this card made of plastic? It was a one-trip card, to be thrown out after our in-and-out. What is wrong with paper? I can see using plastic if it was for a month pass and if you could add additional trips to it but for this situation, the use of plastic is appalling. A simple paper ticket machine could do the job. In fact, it could do the job for longer use too. It is done all over Europe. What a waste!

1. Plastic Charlie Cards are meant to be recharged and reused.
The Charlie ticket machines issue paper tickets but the reusable
plastic cards get a substantial discount. The attendant was doing
you a favor.

Keep the card for the next time you use the T. Add value to it
as needed and proceed. The Charlie Card subway fare is $1.70
with a free bus transfer. The paper ticket "cash" fare is $2.00.
The Charlie Card is nice once you get past the learning curve
and the occasional glitches.
