what about Brunswick landing
Edited on Wed Jun-01-11 06:39 PM by luckyleftyme2
As you all know brunswick naval air station closed officially yesterday. I just was reading a bit in as maine goes and contributed a comment.
I copied this and feel it is worth repeating.

Loring may have many things going for it today, albeit with a great deal of contributions from government connected employers, however the redevelopment for Loring has taken 17 years to get to where it is. Brunswick will face years of lean times until we can approach the levels of Loring's redevelopment.

With the closure today the local media has portrayed the redevelopment as being in full swing but what we have is mostly promises and photo ops. Neither of these will provide a pay check once the cameras go away.

I did not write this but was very involved with several air bases in my lifetime.
So many comments from one person p.o my friends that I felt I SHOULD POST THIS.
THE PERSON CLAIMS BRUNSWICK AS HIS HOME AND HE IS AN AUTHORITY ON EVERYTHING.
WELL since I worked on presque isle base on a huge housing project(they closed the base two years later) since I worked on dow base (the last job was a new housing project) since I worked on pease air base(huge overhaul on housing then they closed the base) and for this air head to comment about brunswick(last 8 years new billets, new hangars new housing units) p.s I worked on the original brunswick gardens melvin when I WAS 17-SO SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE YOUR JUST HOT AIR!
Now from my experience it will take 10-15 years to recover from the job loss!
the person I copied is much closer to reality! the base housing at brunswick gardens is less than 5 years old(much of it)
Yes we got a long ways to go but for now we need to shut people like Melvin up an keep him muted!
Have faith I lived in Brunswick when the population was around 5,000 and I believe the town will survive and prosper! Inspite of Melvin! and transplants like him!
