New Hampshire isn't happy with the DNC's latest meeting
I won't go through the whole thing again as we've been talking about in ad nausem, but New Hampshire is obviously pissed that Iowa (Sally Pederson) did not defend their alliance (twenty-some years running) and will not give a second thought to frog-jumping Iowa come January 2008 (or sooner). What will Iowa do? (Probably wring our sorry little hands and wonder how we got in to this mess...I'll remind ALL IOWANS how we got into this mess, Tom Vilsack wants to be president and how he leaves Iowa for 2012 is not as important to him as how he jump-starts his campaign :grr:)

<snip>

Although Iowa’s impact could also be threatened, its committee member voted with the majority.

<snip>

Committee co-chair James Roosevelt of Massachusetts said squeezing as many as six events into the Jan. 14-Feb. 5, 2008, “pre-window” will “require” a violation of either Iowa’s law mandating that its caucus be held at least eight days before any other contest or New Hampshire’s law requiring the primary to be held at least seven days ahead of any “similar election.”

<snip>

The committee discussed — but did not finalize — a suggestion by Carol Khare Fowler of South Carolina to deny candidates delegates from a state whose primary or caucus is out of step with the final DNC rule.

Roosevelt also had strong words. He said if the primary is moved to a date out of compliance with the DNC rule, “There will be a question for candidates of whether they want to campaign in a primary that does not appear to actually select delegates.”

1. Not sure what to say...
I can't really argue anything that you've said up above, but I wanted to post something.

I guess we will just say "told ya so" after it happens. When it comes down to it, Iowans may have just marginalized Iowans in the whole process. Only time will tell.

5. We'll get to say 'told ya so' as the big jet w/the 2008 and 2012 and 2016
candidates fly over...Iowa will be holding it's caucuses in June of '12 and '16, etc. etc. :(

2. What exactly do Pederson and Vilsack want in 2008?
Sorry to be dense, but what exactly are they shooting for? I have seen you criticize their motives, but I do not see what their motives are? For Vilsack's presidential ambitions, it would seem best for him that the Iowa caucus is first in the series, at least for 2008. I take it that this is your desire also.

I think that Iowa has about 5 members on the DNC. Do you know which one is on the rules and bylaws committee?

6. The Vilsack wet dream scenario will look like this....
He'll win Iowa with the requisite 75% (set by Harkin in 1992) without ever spending any time or money in the state, just because we love him so and no other candidates spent any time here because Vilsack was the designated winner.

He will come in 1-2-3 in the next caucus state (SC or NM or NV or MI) because he dropped $2mil and spent the last eight months there kissing every baby and shaking every hand he could. That give Vilsack two wins (or one win and a good second/third) in less than a week heading into New Hampshire.

Now New Hampshire may or may not remember his screwing them over (They usually don't forget that kind of stuff, so probably not) and as such Vilsack can plan on coming in a distant 3-4-5 and maybe not getting any delegates or getting very few - but because of the last two states he'll still lead the delegate count.

The second primary (but fourth contest) will again be in SC, NM, NV or MI and (again) Vilsack will have spent time and money in that state being able to ignore 2 out of the 4 (since he was always going to win Iowa and always going to lose New Hampshire). He'll show a good 1-2-3 in that state and, after four contests in a two week period, be considered the front runner going into the remainder of the primary season.

Being considered the front runner brings money, volunteer support, media support and VOTES.

That's what I think the Vilsack team desires.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Vilsack doesn't give a shit what happens to Iowa after 2012 and that is disgusting - he's willing to have New Hampshire or any other state jump over Iowa in the next four years for his one shot in the spotlight. That's the love he has for his state.

I want to see Iowa first for 2008, 2012, 2016 and forever and I want my Governor and Democratic Party Chair to work for Iowa remaining first (and not a marginalized first, but first and then eight days until New Hampshire's first primary - working together as a team like the states have done for over 20 years).

Sally Pederson is Vilsack's lap dog and will do whatever he tells her to do, which is why he has her as the Party Chair, so she doesn't move Iowa if New Hampshire jumps ahead of us. She'll sit and stay.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sally Pederson is on the Rules Committee, she voted against New Hampshire. Roxanne Conlin and Jerry Crawford were on the Calendar Committee, they voted against New Hampshire.

Iowa had a whole slew of voting members when they elected Governor Dean to be DNC Chair. Pederson, Culver, Fitzgerald, Opstvedt, Tully, geez, I can't remember them all and I don't know how many of them are still members. Sorry for that. :shrug:
