What do you all think of impeachment as an issue ?
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 11:08 PM by Voltaire
I belive it is THE issue. I believe that so strongly that the only litmus test in Democratic primaries throughout the nation should be whether or not the candidate is FOR impeachment and is willing to put their name on the line as being for it.

A majority of people in this country, depending on what the question is and how it is asked, favor impeachment. I don't think we can wait around and listen to party professional tell us the 1,001 reasons that we cannot even attempt impeachment.....NOT WHEN WE ARE AHEAD IN THE POLLS ON THE SUBJECT.

I guess I am saying that I have no faith in the party to get this done. But it MUST be done. So that means us. We need to let the party types know that we aren't playing this time (you guys that worked on the Dean campaign know what I mean).

Anyway, I am just venting. But I am curious as to how Hoosiers feel about it.

1. I hate to say it...
but I can't stomach a president cheney. That said the opposition party (dems) have to take over one or both houses in 06 to begin a myriad of hearings to a) exert oversight over the admin; b) to disclose to the public the egregious misdeeds of this administration - and flowing out of those hearings impeachment is inevitable.

As a political issue... I really think the way to go is to push the... "We Need to Know what our govt is doing" ... and "if it leads to impeachment - so be it" is the way to go. For too many, due to the sideshow of impeachment hearings over Clinton - there is a visceral reaction when it is perceived just to be a partisan fight - However - much of the public, including Hoosiers, are growing more and more uncomfortable with the president and what is being done "in our name" - thus pushing a need to investigate and to exert oversight - up to and including impeachment - is a winning selling point.

Heard a repub say, just last week, that the bush administration is making the idea of a split (party wise) govt more and more desirable/necessary.

Call me pragmatic - but I think it can - and if the party wins - will go down that way. Even by weaker dems (those afraid of the I word) - because holding hearings that are not just coverups for the admin will disclose too much even to them (the forementioned weaker dems) ... and they too will joing an inevitable I band wagon.

2. I think it's more likely to be President McCain.
I think Cheney might just be on his evil ol' way out.

I agree with your take on the political issue -- what is the government doing? Don't we have a right to know, no matter what? If they aren't doing anything wrong, why are they so secretive? They're basically asking all Americans to feel that way about their own privacy, so I can see some people getting on board that way.

I don't know, honestly, if we can afford to let * stay in the WH for the rest of his term. Lame Duck status doesn' t matter here because he just does whatever he wants, with or without the approval of Congress or the governed (us).
