Okay, so what's the consensus on Sosa?
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 04:38 PM by Tweed
As we all know by now, Sammy Sosa has been traded to the Orioles. Now there are different ways to approach this. Is it good that Sammy is out of town? Did the Cubs make a good trade? Who tainted the relationship between Sammy and the Cubs?

I personally feel that the right field fans boosted Sammy's ego too much and he thought he could do whatever he wanted in Chicago. He ruined the relationship by making harsh comments and not showing up to a game.

I think the trade is questionable though. I've never heard of this infielder they got and prospects are just that. We'll see what we get this year I guess.

1. Sosa has never been the same
since he got beaned in the head. He has been "gun" shy since. I don't mind seeing him leave. This coming from a die hard Cubs fan for fifty years and will prob be dead before they are in their next world series.

2. So the owner of the Cubs will be the next president?
Seems to be a trend here. Is he/she a liberal??

4. The way I see it is
Sammy had to go. His diva antics were too much in the end; his opinion of himself went up as his production went down. Sure, 35 HR and 80 RBI, pretty good, but the Cubs hit 235 homers as a team last year, and where did it get us? I'm hearing there's possibly a third team involved in this trade, where we spin off Hairston and the prospects to another team for a closer. But if we keep Hairston, I don't think it's a bad thing. He's got speed at the top of the lineup, can play 2nd and just about anywhere in the outfield, can score from 2nd on a base hit, and he seems like he has the fundamentals down pretty well, which is something we really lacked last year. Hopefully, there's still a chance to sign Magglio Ordonez, which I think is a risk we should take, considering what is left on the free-agent market.

5. Not a Cubs fan, but if I were
I'd be celebrating. This past season Sosa showed his true colors. The Cubs shed payroll and some clubhouse cancer.
