Why can't we vote to impeach bush?
Vermont Democrats call for Bush impeachment

RANDOLPH, Vermont (Reuters) - Democratic Party leaders in Vermont on Saturday passed a motion asking Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush.

"You know in your own hearts and minds that something is terribly wrong in this country," said Margaret Lucenti, a Democrat from Vermont's capital Montpelier.

The measure asks the Republican-controlled House to pass articles of impeachment against Bush for misleading the nation on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and engaging in illegal wiretapping, among other charges.

Democratic state committees in Wisconsin, New Mexico, Nevada and North Carolina have taken similar steps.
"This is far bigger than a fringe movement on the left," said Dan DeWalt, a 49-year-old woodworker who drafted the Newfane impeachment resolution. "Vermont has a long tradition of speaking out on issues

2. I would vote to impeach however I fear it would divide the party. . .

. . .I'm in Chicago but outside of the Chicago metropolitan area this is a red state and downstate Democrats are a lot more moderate if not downright conservative. Look at the Illinois Legislature and the voting records of downstate Dems.

If this would by a symbolic gesture it would not be worth the dissension it would cost. It would only be worth it if it were legally binding and we would actually impeach the creep. But the controversy it would create and the potential for divinding the party would be too damaging for something that at the end of the day would not mean a damn thing.

I could however see the Chicago City Council vote to impeach.

3. I'm outside of Chicago
And I most definately would be for impeachment, my husband also.

I don't think its a chicago versus the rest of the state issue,
you would think in light of recent events that more and more
dems would be for it, even some republicans

I always thought that Illinois was a fairly blue state, not just
chicago but the whole thing

4. Geographically, Illinois is mostly red.
It's just that the population centers trend blue. Most counties in Illinois are Republican. Democrats win statewide by combining urban strength in Cook and St. Clair and a handful of other counties with a message that resonates with independents in rural areas.

5. Have you seen the results of the 2004 election?
Although Kerry got 55% of the vote in Illinois Bush won 87 counties Kerry won only 15.

6. red v blue
any accounting of the political "color" of illinois has to realize that peoples opinions and their votes are not the same thing. why? vote fraud. so, if you can factor that one out, you will come out with a way different scenario than counting kerry's '04 counties. with the events since then factored in, i do not think you can assume that it would not get support.
that said, i would love to see this happen. i think that the city council might well do it. i know joe moore (my alderman) would stick it out there. i have to have a chat with him this week. if i can i will asl about this.
i have been thinking just this morning about the dog and pony show on friday about sequioa. i was wishing i could send a copy of fooled again to all 50 alderman, plus david orr, plus langdon neal. i wonder if i could get a volume discount.
