Idaho, I've been reading a bit about the late Senator Frank Church lately
And I've gotta say, it's such a damn shame that he was defeated by the pukes and that he's no longer with us. I have no doubt that if he were still alive today he'd be up there with Feingold fighting the Patriot Act tooth and nail.

Next time I hear someone (particularly a dem) say that nothing good comes out of Idaho, I am going to remind them about Senator Church.

1. You should check out the wilderness area dedicated to him
Some of the most spectacular scenery in Idaho. There's others though that have been great. Cecil Andrus was a great governor. Richard Stallings was a decent representative. And call me crazy, but I think Jim Hansen has a good chance in the 2nd distric this year. I don't agree with everything stance but it would be nice to see the color change after a long, long red run.

2. It helps me keep the faith that one day...one day
we can elect another great statesman. This state really is not so republican as it is independent.
The spirit that settled this state come from a lot of 'rebels' and given the right
candidate it will come forth again and do the right thing. I really believe that.

3. He was a good man...
He died of cancer in 1984, some years after leaving the Senate and being defeated by Steve Symms (scum bucket that he was - still is). In that respect his defeat was a mixed blessing according to him. He was able to spend time with his wife, Bethine. She's lives in the North End here in Boise. Church is buried in one of the oldest cemetery in Boise - if not the oldest. Bethine Church also wrote a book about her life with Frank. His eldest son, Forrest, is a Unitarian minister. Their younger son is here in Boise as well, Chase.

And for the record, there's plenty of good that comes from Idaho. Trust me - I spent plenty of time educating folks while at college and graduate school.
