Hello! Organizing a DU meetup for the Inauguration - check in here please
Details yet to come - but please check in the DC forum from time to time to see what the updates are.

I'm working on a location for the party; however, accomadations are on your own. If you manage to swing a hotel/motel room and have room for 1-2 more, then post here so we can help each other out.

:woohoo:

1. I live in Northern Virginia
I'd love to be part of any gathering. I live in an apartment with a roommate so I don't know about hosting anyone, but I will ask her if I can let someone stay on my couch. But does anyone know how to get tickets?

2. I'm in
What about the Hawk & Dove? That's been a good place for us in the past. :)

Still looking for accomodations--if anyone can let us know what hotels are close to which metro lines, please share! :) I'm getting a room with 2 beds (somewhere) so would be willing to share w/another DUer to split costs!

3. Depending on timing,
Hawk & Dove likely to be rather busy, dontcha think? Depending on everyone's plans, maybe more than one get together?

Haven't checked out various sites for nearby accommodations, but I'm sure there are a few. Hotels.com, for example.

Here's DC MetroRail system map: http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm

I live in 'townhouse' in Aspen Hill, MD (part of Silver Spring, which is quite large) and may have room for visitors. NOT near public transport, so I'll be driving to and fro.

11. but seriously, what time would be "too late"
to get to DC & get a decent place along the parade route/inauguration? I'm envisioning people camping out overnight for good spots.

7. Hi from Sunny LA
Hello everyone, coming to DC from 18th to 22nd with a buddy
who worked the ground in Colorado. We have airline and will
have tickets, but need to find sleeping arrangements. Have
checked online and all hotels in area are popping up booked.
Any creative ideas would be appreciated.
Will keep checking this site because we do want to join your
meet up!

10. All I can say is good luck
I booked my room before the inauguration and already have it filled with guests. I think Wolverine is staying in Richmond and they have a bus coming that day.

Other than that good luck. Wish I could help you out but you can meet at our hotel the day of the parade.

Lynne

14. Please keep me posted too!
If the Hawk & Dove is crowded (which I have a strong feeling it will be), then an alternative spot should be considered. I can check out a few places in the meanwhile and send you a pm on what I find.

15. We're going (we also have empty floors/extra beds)
Edited on Sun Dec-07-08 03:08 PM by stuntcat
We're in Arlington, near a bus line that goes straight to the Pentagon. I think we're leaving at 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning to head to the city. We might have to go the night before though, who knows what'll be going on when the time actually comes. My husband said the bus might not even be able to move, we might have to get out and walk to the capital lol

I was just reading an article in the Post about all the families driving here to try to see the parade who'll probably be sleeping in their cars..
I'd like to put an open ad on Craig's List, like "Come stay with us for free!" but then who knows what kind of freaks we'd get :scared:
DU people would be okay though!
Do you already have a place Lynne?

17. all set, I'll say :o
In case anyone offers you thousands of dollars for your reservation then remember you have a back-up real close.

I'd like to have a house-load of people, for one night or maybe two, but I'm not too good at being a host. Me and Ben are so used to being quiet and alone.. the cats would hate having guests! but I think we'll have one or two, it'll be the best reason to party in a long time.

18. I'll pass this along to my friend SharonRB
She & her daughter were thinking of coming, but don't have a place to stay yet. As it is, they will have to drive in & if the weather's bad, they might not be able to come anyway. :(

19. We've pretty much decided not to go
It's going to be too crazy. Also, as far as this offer, the cats would be a deal breaker (no offense, Stuntcat, but I'm allergic). I'll still take the day off and watch from the warmth of my house -- maybe have some friends over for brunch or something.

20. oh :(
That would have been great too, you and your daughter.. having a family come stay would be cool.

I have a feeling we'll get matched up with someone, I mean a MILLION people want to be here, I just don't know who yet. I feel kinda weird about complete strangers.. and at the same time I want to help someone see the parade, I mean it's a BIG exciting deal!

I was looking into Matchbook on H Street near Gallery Place, but obviously it'll be very crowded. So I'll bring a shoehorn to squeeze in at H & D, LOL!
