So I've gone and done something crazy y'all....
I know i've been away for a good bit. Been off doing my thing in workplaces that block forums and such. In any case, I'm back.

And I'm seeing a good ol' boy from Middle Georgia. And he's never voted anything but republican, but considers himself a moderate. And he's pro-life. Oh and did I mention we're of different races?

So far it is working out ok. He's very moderate with me, and his saving grace is an abiding admiration for John Edwards. But what have I gotten myself into? I've never really ventured off 285 much, so I'm not even sure what the culture is like down there. he says it's country. He's over by Callaway Gardens somewhere.

So I'm wondering if anybody around that way has any input on the area and the culture clash and whatnot.

1. I found me one of those good ol GA boys from down around that area
Granted, he's the same race and we're both flaming liberals.

Go for it. You gotta do what makes you happy.

2. yeah he surprises me...
I thought freeper for sure, but he's remarkably middle of the road. And we can have political discussions without resorting to fisticuffs. so far anyways.

I guess my concern is if i ever went down there to visit him. I wonder how comfortable I'd be or whether we'd shock the town he lives in.

3. I don't claim to know that area, but IME...
I've been pleasantly surprised by the acceptance of the vast majority of Georgians to racially mixed families. I can only hope that'd extend to an interracial couple.

I'd like to think it really isn't a big deal anywhere, any more, but mostly I have to just hope. Let us know how it turns out, and welcome back. (I've been pretty inactive here as well, myself.)

4. Yeah I agree
I've been pleasantly surprised as well, and you do see interracial couples even in the smallest towns. He's already admitted alot of his family is racist, but I suppose that's to be expected all things considered. And then again, I never know how folks react to me either, because I'm not black, I'm Indian.

I've run across some completely racist people, who consider me white(?) or perhaps strangely exotic enough to be proclaimed OK, and some who consider me black cuz i'm "colored", therefore just plain wrong.

It will be interesting to see how America changes over the (hopefully 8 years) of an Obama presidency. I feel outside of the racial tension in America sometimes because it seems to be so Black and White. And at different times, I've felt pulled by either side, trying to claim me in the divide against the other.

I aim to be Switzerland.
