Need some help from Floridians with my foggy memory..
Edited on Sun Mar-30-08 05:16 PM by youthere
Okay this is a real long shot, but when I was about 15 (almost 30 years ago) I visited my brother who was living in Stuart at the time. He took me out to a "catfish place"...it was about an hours drive or so (maybe longer) and had the most wonderful on-the-bone catfish, hushpuppies and coleslaw. I've never eaten anything like it. It was a little hole in the wall type place (I remember it being kind of dirty), and I remember that they had pictures all around the room of famous people that had eaten there, and if memory serves we passed the town where "Burt and Loni" used to live (Jupiter?)-but I can't be sure.....Does this sound familiar to anyone? I remember my brother telling me the place was famous, but I haven't been able to find anything online, other than a place in St. Cloud (called "The Catfish Place")..but I don't think that's it.
I don't eat meat anymore, but we're starting to plan a family trip to Florida in November and if the place is still around, I'd like to take my husband and kids.
If anyone can help, I'd REALLY appreciate it. I realize I didn't give you a lot to go on, so thank you in advance for whatever help you can offer.

The Catfish Place is in St. Cloud, Florida...I don't know how long it has been there...

There are lots of places towards Lake Okeechobee....

2. Lone Cabbage Fish Camp
I know this is a little further than an hour's drive, more like an hour & a half, but for my money, this is the best!

Lone Cabbage Fish Camp, on Taylor Creek just west of Cocoa near the borders of Brevard, Osceola and Orange Counties.
They have airboat rides there too, if you're into that. Go in November, you might have to make a reservation!

3. I'd say you almost have to be talking about the Catfish House in Hobe Sound.
The place doesn't have a website, but if you google "catfish house" and "hobe sound," you'll find some directions.
