Denver Radio sucks.
A site to check out. It talks about how much Denver Radio sucks.

We wish we could say that we're responsible, but we had nothing to do with it. Some San Diego residents became fed up with their radio too, and created - guess what - sandiegoradiosucks.
Of course, bad radio isn't limited to Denver, or San Diego, or any other city that the corporate media entities believe they can milk for advertising dollars. The sorry state of our local radio stations reflect a national problem - U.S. radio sucks.

Since the largest radio "homogenizer" in the nation is Clear Channel Communications, you don't have to wonder too much why the domain name clearchannelsucks.com is already taken. That name was registered by SFX Entertainment, Inc., the new Clear Channel subsidiary.
If you look at what stations Clear Channel has in Denver, the word "homogenization" is perhaps inaccurate. Incestuous is more like it. There are eight stations in Denver owned by CCC, and most share the same sleeping quarters:

Help me get some more negative info on Clear Channel.

2. I listen to NPR/CPR.
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 11:56 PM by janx
There's nothing else of worth to listen to for news or current events.

I've grown tired of the music stations, too, and that's a real shame. Radio here is all sports, right-wing talk shows, fundamentalist religion stations, etc.

KBCO is OK on the weekends. There are too many commercials and homogenous junk on the weekdays.

3. Enid Goldstein is pretty good
She's on weekdays on 1150 a.m. after O'Reilly. And she's local. So at least we can get the liberal perspective on Colorado issues.

4. She's gone!
KNRC shut down last week :( We've lost the only liberal/progressive voice on Denver radio. We're trying to start some campaign to get her back, but KOA and KHOW are both Clear Channel stations - so that won't work. Any ideas? I miss Enid :(

5. For crying out loud!
I listened several times a week. Last week must have been the first time in months that I didn't listen. You blink and things sure can change.

I don't have a clue about what to do. It's a miracle that we have Air America on computer or sattelite radio. And even more of a miracle that AAR hired Malloy. I'm going to get Sirius radio so I can have it in my car and also in the house. Until the tides turn, we're pretty well screwed and stuck with the likes of the conservative locals. But I will email the talk radio station managers and at least voice my opinion.

8. Why did Enid never use the "L" word?
She always called herself the "non-conservative" talk show host. Never used the word: Liberal. I miss her too, but she deviated from the political forum a bit too much, IMHO. The Aspen Food Festival thingee was a little over-the-top for me. Kinda' "limo-demish"

Was her last day when Gary Hart phoned in the interview from the airplane? I knew something was wrong that day because of "technical" difficulties they weren't running any commercials.

9. I'm not sure she never used it...
I was her intern and listened to her speak in public a few times, and she definitely acknowledged her liberal/progressive views. However, on some issues, such a childcare, she is not liberal.

As far as the Aspen thing - one thing I enjoyed about her show was that it wasn't all politics, all the time. She introduced us to authors, journalists, chefs, etc., and helped to introduce us to areas we might not previously look at. It's amazing to me that we love watching rich people on TV, talking about celebrities cars/houses/bank accounts, etc., but then criticize it in real life. (I'm not attacking you, I've heard other people criticize Enid for the same thing. I just don't get it.)

10. She never promoted herself using the word: Liberal
Most of her views were definitely liberal, but I always wondered whether the station decided to use "non-conversative" talk show host in the promotions....rather than the dirty "L" word.

For me, the Aspen thing was a huge disconnect from the listeners. How many people can afford $2,000 to watch a bunch of chefs cook? And for that matter, who cares?

Mixing "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" with "Liberal/Progressive Talk" just didn't seem like a good blend. It was sort of a contradiction in my opinion. I've dealt with a number of rich people over the years and have found that most of them are boring assholes.

All that said, I still miss her show. Now I'm back to listening to "the mountain" during the afternoon when I'm out and about. I can't stomach 5 seconds of the right wing talk crap.

BTW: You can attack me anytime neighbor. It's the only way I know who does and does not have me on "ignore".

Peace.
:hippie:

12. Well I won't put you on ignore :)
I understand what you mean about the Aspen food/wine festival. Although if I were a host and got offered free tickets/place to stay I'd go up there too and broadcast from the event ;)

I'm still pissed she's not on anymore. She really took the Republicans to task, and we need a progressive voice again. Right now we're holding off on the letter writing so it doesn't hurt her chances at all. I wish I had a few million $$, we could all open up a liberal radio station. I've said from the beginning that KNRC should have gone 100% left - we have enough conservative blowholes out there!
