Will Bennet hold his seat?
I am dubious.

I think the current round of anti-Bennet,"Big tax spender" ads will hold their sway over independents.

I know it's early... but, any other thoughts?

1. Bennet is in trouble.
In my opinion, Ken Buck is going to be the odds on favorite to win.

Even though Buck is very, very conservative ... teabagger extreme, he is likable and does not come across as nutty right-wing like Sharron Angle.

Bennet looks like a grow-up Richie Rich, he IS an elitist, and he was a Phil Anschutz hatchet man.

Sorry Gov. Ritter and the corporate Democratic establishment in Colorado, but Michael Bennet is a loser.

But at least the Hickenlooper gubernatorial candidacy will save some of the Democrats in the legislature this fall.

2. Can't agree.
Probably because I live in Weld County. Buck is many things, 'likable' is not among them. He's a bigot, a misogynist, equates liberals with criminals, and does not consider himself to be bound by the same rules that apply to everyone else; in other words, he's exactly the kind of candidate that Karl Rove loves. Rove's first ad against Bennet is transparently dumbed-down, he's seeking to sway 'just enough', not everyone. The elitist meme is the creation of the far right and is laughably useless coming from the same people who foisted W on the planet. Suggest you read this:

God save us from the likes of Ken Buck.

3. But if Buck can stay out of the spotlight
How many people will know "He's a bigot, a misogynist, equates liberals with criminals, and does not consider himself to be bound by the same rules that apply to everyone else..."

For the "casual" voter... they'll be depending on sound bites.

I think sound bites will win this election and I'm worried.

10. Buck must be eviscerated at all costs
There is dirt on this guy, somewhere. He is an evil dude. Any dead bodies? Someone needs to do some research, because he has some skeletons in the closet worth rattling. Once it's done, he is toast. Let's get started!

4. Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Buck ahead 49-40
Aargh!

The same poll shows Hickenlooper ahead, but if Tancredo is excluded, then Hickenlooper and Maes are tied at 45% each.

5. Read Colorado Pols story on this polling.
Seems that this particular poll queried voters who were disproportionately Republican...

I read Colorado Pols, but I must have missed that item. I'll look for it.

7. No matter what Bennet does or dosn't do he is toast
Buck may be allot of things (that we know about) but the rest of the state hasn't a clue.

The "Homegrown" Factor will play no matter how clean or how dirty it gets. = advantage Buck

we should have gone with Romanoff.

8. Except that Buck isn't at all 'homegrown'.
And Buck's local fans routinely post comments to the newspaper, comments that repeat the phrase "he is toast." A bit squicky to see it used here...

9. ok "stick a fork in him he is done"
Romanoff was still stronger against Buck.
then Bucks grandstand by crashing Romanoff's B-day party,. kept his name in the paper and stole Bennets thunder trying to unify us DEMS.

I will vote for Bennet, but sadly I think he will lose.

13. I don't know...
I think Bennet stands a chance, but I'm not sure it matters much. Bennet is such a conservative, I'm not sure there's much difference between him and Buck. I'll hold my nose and vote for Bennet, but my heart was broken when Romanoff lost. I will never forgive Obama and the DSCC for that.

14. Oh, come on
There's a huge difference between a conservative Democrat like Bennett and raving loonie like Buck.

And there's also the question of which party will be in the majority. We want those chairmanships and the Senate agenda in our hands.

15. He's an underdog...
I like to bang my head against the wall every two years by trying my hand at the prognostication thing (with admittedly some pretty good success), and right now the polls show Bennett pretty consistently (as in, since February) down 4-5 points to Buck. In the interest of cutting down on the number of "tossups" I have, I finally bit the bullet and went with "Lean Republican" on this, but the fact that Buck hasn't put this thing away yet combined with my underlying suspicion that pollster STILL haven't figured out what the electorate is REALLY going to look like this fall gives me hope. The way I have things now, I don't think the Democrats NEED Colorado to hold the Senate, but with Bennett, Reid, Boxer and Murray all late-evening results, it's going to be a long election night.
