Questions for Bay Area Du'ers
I've been visiting the Bay Area and environs(am now down in Santa Cruz) and the name "Peralta" keeps cropping up. There's a Peralta TV, university system, and a guy named Peralta running for mayor of Oakland. What exactly are the ties(if ties exist) between all things Peralta?

1. Link here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peralta_Home

The Peralta Home, at 561 Lafayette Avenue, San Leandro, California, was the first brick house built in Alameda County. It was constructed in 1860 for Ignacio Peralta, early San Leandro Spanish settler, by W.P. Toler (Peralta's son-in-law).

2. It's an old family out of Oakland.

The Peralta family owned most of the land surrounding Oakland. This was back during Mexico's rule.

3. Is the Peralta that's running for mayor related to them?
And what sort of character is he?

4. I believe he's a descendent of the original family.
He's o.k. Better than the current mayor, no Jerry Brown but that's a hard act to follow.

12. Oakland, now known as Oaksterdam, has been mismanaged...

for generations! "Moonbeam" Brown was certainly among the horrible "leaders"/mayors Oakland has endured since 1966. Theislink will definitely open some minds up out there in the DU!

Please read it and weep! This is what happened:

My High School was located in Peralta Park, the Berkeley/Albany Peralta Adobe was built near the entrance to the campus.

Don Perata is not related to the Peralta family as far as I know. He did attend St. Mary's College
