Courage Campaign - online organizing network, for progressive change in California

http://www.couragecampaign.org/

Welcome to the Courage Campaign!
The Courage Campaign is an online organizing network that empowers nearly 400,000 grassroots and netroots activists to push for progressive change in California.

Whether it's helping kill the GOP's electoral college initiative "dirty trick," count the infamous "double bubble" votes in Los Angeles after Super Tuesday, or push for the ultimate closure of the "yacht tax loophole," the Courage Campaign has waged many successful campaigns.

Our partners include MoveOn.org, CREDO Mobile, Democracy for America, PowerPAC.org, United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW), the California Nurses Association, and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Los Angeles.

The Courage Campaign is also a member of Progress Now's national network of statewide advocacy organizations. Our online organizing tools are powered by Blue State Digital.

Courage Campaign staff

Rick Jacobs is the founder and chair of the Courage Campaign. He chaired Howard Dean's presidential campaign in California and served as Senior Advisor to Democracy for America. He is also the co-founder of Brave New Films, a director of the Liberty Hill Foundation and a featured contributor to Huffingtonpost.com. Rick has a long background as an investor and senior executive.

Eden James is the Managing Director of the Courage Campaign. Before joining Courage in 2007, Eden barely slept during 2006, helping build a people-powered movement to defeat Rep. Richard Pombo (CA-11) as the primary election Field Director and general election Online Communications Director for Jerry McNerney for Congress. Eden has also organized online and offline for Working Assets (now CREDO Mobile) and the Alliance for a Better California. Inspired by the empowerment politics of Howard Dean's presidential campaign, Eden is a strong proponent for the potential of grassroots and netroots activists to change politics, change California, and change America.

Julia Rosen is the Online Political Director for the Courage Campaign. She got her start in politics working for Common Cause in DC. She moved out to California to work for the Alliance for a Better California, where she wrote over 2,000 posts on why Arnold Schwarznegger is not a Democrat. Julia continued her work within the labor movement serving as the Online Communications Director for Working Californians. Her background is in connecting the netroots and the labor movement to bring about progressive change. Julia is proud to be user number 8,370 at Daily Kos. She is currently an editor at Calitics and a regular contributor to Crooks and Liars, when she isn't blogging at her personal site Ruck Pad.

Robert Cruickshank is the Public Policy Director for the Courage Campaign. Robert is a historian, activist, and teacher living in Monterey. He is a contributing editor at Calitics. Currently he is completing his Ph.D. dissertation in U.S. history, on progressive politics in San Francisco in the 1960s and 1970s. A native Californian, he was raised in Orange County and educated at UC Berkeley.

Todd Beeton is an Online Organizer and blogger for the Courage Campaign. In 2004, Todd and a partner began an e-newsletter, Wild Democracy Ride, and distributed it to friends and family to promote the candidacy of John Kerry. Their list steadily grew and they applied for and were granted credentials to cover the Democratic National Convention in Boston. In July 2004, they turned it into a blog and Todd's been blogging ever since. Todd joined Courage Campaign as a blogger in 2006 and served as its Content Director until 2007. Todd has blogged at Calitics and The Right's Field and is currently a front-page blogger for MyDD.

Miles Kurland does web development and graphic design for the Courage Campaign. He didn't invent the Internet, but he was there in the early days as the first programmer to work on the software that became AOL. He developed pioneering new media tools like Lumena (the first professional PC-based paint system) and was a senior architect for Macromedia Director. An early netroots activist (Daily Kos UID 95) he's designed online tools and/or graphics for MoveOn.org, the CDP, John Edwards, John Kerry, Chris Dodd, DFA, Kos Media, MyDD, Jerry McNerney, Lt. Col. Charlie Brown and, of course, Courage Campaign. He's a grassroots organizer with Sonoma County DFA.

Lucas O'Connor is an Online Organizer and blogger for the Courage Campaign. Lucas is a member of the editorial board at Calitics and is a regular contributor to San Diego Politico. He has also done freelance work for San Diego CityBeat and managed the Google Bomb campaign in 2006. Currently living in San Diego, Lucas was born and raised inside the beltway in Arlington, VA and never shook the political bug. When not involved in politics, he enjoys watching the Chargers hire coaches who couldn't hack it with his Redskins.

3. I've stopped getting their mail. Maybe because I made a big fuss
about being canvassed by Democrats that I didn't sign up for and got dropped from some master list? I really hate not being able to *choose* who I get email from because there's so much of it, it would be impossible to keep up with it all. :(
