I have been engaged in an increasingly frustrating debate with the administration of my alma mater, Pepperdine. I have pointed out a number of times that Peterson is spouting lies in his hateful ads, including the one about teachers being required to teach about same-sex marriage, which a court has already adjudicated is "false and misleading." I have cc'd Peterson on my communications, and here is his bizarre response:
"Your accusations and name calling is very troubling. If you are involved with this election you know that the statements made in the advertisement are not lies. They are true and you don’t like them because you don’t want people to know this information. If they were lies they would not be allowed to continue on the air. You want to label people as bigots because you think that will sell your position. You don’t know me. You simply hurl hateful name calling, demonstrating that tolerance runs one way with you. You are a partisan and feel passionately about your position, but to engage in name calling is below what would be expected of a movement urging tolerance. For your information, I support the civil rights that have been afforded people who are gay or lesbian. I abhor discrimination. I am not homophobic. This is about marriage. It is not bigotry, it is biology!
Most importantly, all your complaints to Pepperdine suggest that Pepperdine as an institution has taken a position in this matter and you know very well they have not. All of the blogs and those opposed to proposition 8 have developed a strategy to attack Pepperdine in an effort to bring them into this argument. You know very well they have nothing to do with it. If you object to the ad then contact protectmarriage.com and tell them. To keep up this email campaign is a waste of time for everyone. Again, if you don’t like the ads contact PROTECTMARRIAGE.COM. They have the answers you are not really looking for. In the meantime, I can tell you all of the hateful, vicious, disgusting email sent to me is not helping your cause."
Nice to hear he isn't homophobic and doesn't support discrimination. Right......
