EQUALITY CALIFORNIA BACKS WESTLY IN ‘06
California Political Desk
May 9, 2006

Move by Top Calif. LGBT Rights Group Reflects Westly’s Deep Support in Community.

PALO ALTO, CA – Recognizing Steve Westly’s longtime commitment to ensuring equality for all Californians, Equality California, California’s premier LGBT advocacy organization, has endorsed Controller Steve Westly for Governor in 2006.

According to Equality California’s website, “Equality California, along with Equality California Institute and the Equality California PAC, share a mission to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Californians. Founded in 1998, Equality California has chapters throughout the state and offices in Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Francisco.”

“Steve Westly is the only major gubernatorial candidate who has unequivocally supported equality for our community from the very start of his political career and the only candidate to have a perfect score on our questionnaire,” said Geoffrey Kors, EQCA Executive Director. “It is essential that California elects a Governor who will never waiver on the issue of equality and that candidate is Steve Westly.”

“I am thrilled to have won the support of the leading LGBT rights advocacy group in California,” said Controller Westly. “EQCA knows I have been committed to progressive values like LGBT equality for more than 25 years, and I will carry this commitment with me to the Governor’s office.”

2. Both my sons, and myself are giving our votes to Steve Westley.
With all due respect to Phil Angelides, he appears to me to be a "typical" Democratic leader, as in the "DLC" type.

I could be wrong about Phil, but I just FEEL California needs a fresh face, and a Governor who isn't beholden to special interests of any degree (that includes unions).

Steve Westley appears to me to be a man who can (still don't know if he will) support the single payer system SB 840 universal health-care bill that is poised to pass California's legislature, and with Garamendi, who is running for Lieutenant Governor, and who has a plan to use workman's comp and the budget we currently use for people without health-care in California to fund universal health-care for ALL Californian's in support of SB 840, I believe Westley would be the one to see it through.

We desperately need leaders in our State government (and Federal government too) that dare take a chance and do something different to lead California onto a better path, and I just feel, like my sons, that Phil Angelides isn't the one to do it since he's already beholden to "special interests" that are endorsing him.

So far, Steve Westley isn't being "endorsed" by any.

THAT should be a good thing, right? I mean, IF we want change...

5. I'm voting for Angelides
Westly is a DLCer. Angelides is a real Democrat.

6. I've compared the two.
And my conclusion is that Angelides is the status quo while a vote for Westly is a vote to replace the clubby clique who currently runs the Democratic Party in California. I'm all for replacing the current set of bums and replacing them with a new set of bums.
