By the numbers - CA-48 sepcial election
By the numbers

In Tuesday's special election, the numbers tell some curious tales, such as: Jim Gilchrist won among those who went to polling places. John Campbell got enough absentee votes that he would have won without getting a single vote in the polling places. And because of low turnout, Campbell trounced the field overall despite getting picked by just 11 percent of the district's registered voters.

26% Turnout of registered voters

65% Votes cast by absentee ballot

35% Polling place votes cast for

Jim Gilchrist

32% Polling place votes cast for

Steve Young

30% Polling place votes cast for

52% Absentee votes cast for Campbell

25% cast absentee for Young

20% cast absentee for Gilchrist
