Has C-SPAN2 (US Senate) coverage been taken over in your county?
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 02:14 PM by phoebe
If so, please call your cable rep. ASAP and DEMAND it back. If the rep. tells you that it is C-SPAN's doing, ask to lodge a complaint because they are being disingenuous and playing games.

Many areas of Southern California are having their C-SPAN2 coverage overridden by local government despite having other channels available for providing this information.

Please take the time to call your local cable company and complain.
C-SPAN has a package deal with the cable company to run both C-SPAN and C-SPAN2 - one should not be run without the other.

Unfortunately, many cities have negotiated with the cable companies to run their programming and your cable company has more than likely decided to use what was C-SPAN2's previously designated channel.

Please take the time out of your busy day to get C-SPAN2 back on the air so we can continue to monitor what the government is doing in "our" name.

P.S.

Well aware that one can stream C-SPAN channels on a computer but please realize that not everyone in your community has access to a computer! Do it for those who don't. Thanks.

1. Absolutely not....
We have all of the freedoms that we have always had, however if Steven Harper were to ever become Prime Minister, that could happen IMHO.

2. I've noticed this during the evenings especially
but not consistently. If the Senate is in an evening session, we still get CSpan2 but sometimes they go over to RELIGIOUS programming instead! I'll definitely call my cable company (Charter).

4. OK - where are all the C-SPAN2 fans (or not) ??
This is an important issue - we NEED an unfiltered view of the Senate. Call your cable rep. and request/demand that they put C-SPAN2 back on the air.

Understanding the thinking that not all southern Californians have the patience to watch, the will to watch or the desire to watch what the Senate is up to - please think about those of us who are willing to do so in order to keep you informed. Remember that YOU VOTED for these senators!

5. Thankfully, here in Alameda County it is still running.
Hope your area mates will call in to help. What did they say when you called?

6. talked to city admin. this a.m. and she is looking in to 2
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 03:21 PM by phoebe
local cities who have somehow by-passed the C-SPAN2 signal during the day. These cities will show important council meetings when they occur during evening hours.

City admin. had received another complaint and will contact the cable operator after talking to other cities about their ops. Gave her the contact number for C-SPAN and gave C-SPAN rep. her number so they can communicate.

Cox cable appears to have made the decision to run over C-SPAN2. Would be interested to see which other cable ops. are doing the same.

According to city admin. the only channel available would be the TV Guide channel on which to run C-SPAN2. (Can't deny the viewers that now can we??? The US Senate is inconsequential in comparison..)

Will keep DU informed of results.

Meanwhile, if you are experiencing similar problems, please lodge a complaint with your cable provider and talk to your local city administrator.

8. Weather Channel Here
Not only does not everybody have access to a computer, but to stream those c-span feeds off the web with any sort of realistic worthiness of watching, you're gonna need a broadband connection. Last I checked, forty-some % in this country are still on dialup connections.

Here where I live (LA-Valley), it's Adelphia cable and my C-SPAN2 is marked in the digital cable guide as CS2/WC - that means the weather channel is on half the time. Thats complete crap and I'm glad you raise this issue as I will now call and complain. It's retarded from the other side too because people can't see the weather forecast half the time during the day... because CSPAN2 is on instead!!
