1. Pretty red.
Tucson is bluer than the state, in general, though.

We are going to move there by the end of the year and stay for a year to help take care of my wife's mom.

3. WAY Red. Including Scottsdale (where I live)
The only liberal areas are near the universities - Tucson, Tempe, maybe Flagstaff.

9. Yes!
I've lived in Tucson for 37 years. Pima County is to Maricopa County as Al Franken is to Michele Bachmann. My congressman, incidentally, is Raul Grijalva. One visit will convince you.

Here's a link I know you'll enjoy:

15. I've lived here the past 42 years
an influx of out of state rednecks, , minute men and hags and just plain stupid people have turned a lovely place into a very red state.( the carpet baggers have taken over the state).

16. South Scottsdale (older part of Scottsdale) is blue. It's closer to Tempe, which is also bluish.
When you get into North Scottsdale, you are getting into the wealthier part of the state. It's gorgeous there, unbelievable mountain views, but it's pretty red.

What's bringing you to Arizona? and when? You know that we are going into our bad weather season. No matter where you live, make sure you have access to a pool...it's not a luxury - it's a neccessity :)

18. Purple People - Infrared Government
Some areas are redder than Alabama (Mesa), others, like Tucson, are Blue. Arizona's most extreme right wingers have control right now, and are desperately clinging and pandering to stay, but it is going to get harder for them.

20. Central Phoenix is pretty blue as well
The suburbs (Scottsdale, Peoria, Glendale, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert) are as red as can be though, although with the growing Hispanic population in some parts of the Northwest Valley, that might change.

We've got 5 Democratic representatives and 3 Republicans, but at least two of the Dems are Blue Dogs (Mitchell and Giffords, I'm not sure if Kirkpatrick is or not) and are targeted districts. The other two Dems are way Left, Grijalva and Pastor and they're safe.

The scary part is the far-right Republican and Mormon influence on state politics. And the influence of racist seniors. The Democratic Party just doesn't seem too organized right now and I'm pretty cynical about our chances at making any gains this year - SB1070 has really fired up the racist Republican base - if we can't beat a sheriff who has new ethics and corruption claims filed weekly I'm not sure if we can defeat a now-popular Governor, especially if Sun City (retirement community) has a massive turnout like it always does.

But SB1070 could swing things the other way if it mobilizes the Latino community towards the Democratic side.
