Shadegg flip-flops on retirement
Shadegg changes mind, will run again

Congressman John Shadegg has changed his mind.

The seven-term Republican who represents north Phoenix and Paradise Valley said numerous calls for him to reconsider last week's decision to retire affected him deeply.

"My decision was made after deep reflection and consultation with my family," he said in a statement. "It was entirely a personal decision between me and my family. The reactions of my constituents and my friends now suggest there were implications far broader than we had contemplated."

Shadegg will face primary opposition for the first time since he was first elected. Steve May, a former legislator, will run against him.
