Very good article about Benson's campaign

STERLING -- Seventy-nine-year-old Dillon Kimple walked into the Sterling Senior Center last week and plunked down $7 to get Diane Benson a plate of baked chicken strips, lima beans, corn and white bread with a carton of milk.

"This young lady is running for Congress, and she's my guest this afternoon," he told the cashier. He then introduced her around to his friends at the daily lunch gathering.

How did Kimple get the assignment as political handler for a day in the Democrat's campaign to unseat U.S. Rep. Don Young? He was a party member who lived here, and he had some free time.

"The Democratic Party that's here -- both of us -- got together," the retired commercial fisherman joked. The other one was his wife, Jean, who drove Benson to Soldotna and Kenai engagements Friday and handed out homemade sugar cookies at a coffee shop meet-and-greet session.

And if you haven't done so already, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE sign the online petition requesting help from the DCCC. My strong belief is that Diane could win this thing if she can just get her message heard all across the state.

It's a great article. Wonder if this is a sign that the Daily News will finally stop ENDORSING Young?
(they've done that the last three or four times, for some insane reason.)

I wondered about the ADN endorsement, too. It seems to me like this is the best possible year for them to go out on a limb and support somebody other than Don Young. There have been several letters to the editor recently supporting Diane by name, or at the very least complaining about Don, so maybe the tide has turned. I sure hope so. I'm just so sick of Republicans.
