So Ben Stevens drops out... Whadda think?
.........

As far as who winds up winning the nomination from his party, I'd prefer seeing Lesil McGuire (who is much more tolerable) and NOT Norm Rokeberg.. ACK!

I forgot if who/if a Democrat is running in that race? The only names the media has been talking about constantly is Rokeburg and McGuire.

Huh. ..I didn't realize it was Tony Knowles who had appointed Ben Stevens to that seat..

Well, that won't go down in history as one of his greatest decisions!

1. What on earth was Tony thinking??
My husband is very suspicious of Ben's stepping down. He thinks that the guv is getting ready to appoint him to Ted or Don's position in some sneaky underhanded way. I believe that our vote in 2004 to have elections instead of appointments will prevent this from happening -- I hope.

2. Well...
I know we voted that Governors can no longer appoint U.S. Senators and that it HAS to go to a vote of the people... but I'm wondering what else Murky could appoint Benny Boy to?

Ben is about as popular as the Guv these days..

One thing I keep thinking about this upcoming Gubanatorial primary is.. it's going to be a major test for whether or not they choose to manipulate the Diebold system or not.

There is NO WAY in Hell that Murky would win it without tampering.. and if somehow he does win it, for the first time in Diebold history, Republicans will be screaming bloody murder about how crooked the machines are.

It's going to be an interesting primary to watch..

3. Also, it has NEVER been possible to be appointed to the U.S. House.
I've heard that Ben might be drafted to replace Don Young as GOP nominee for the congressional seat, but there really isn't a case for it.

If Don drops out, most of the arguement for keeping the seat Republican(seniority and the committee chairmanships)goes away. And if Young Ben is tainted by scandal, he hardly comes off as the strongest candidate.

Besides, I think both Don and Ted are pretty much committed to dying in office. They'd never just give up the power, and a lot of their base would never desert them because that would mean admitting that tantrum politics don't work.
