How smart is Edwards?
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 06:24 PM by soupkitchen
There is little doubt in my mind that Cheney didn't "forget" he had met Edwards.
Rather, I think Cheney was trying to goad him into a trap.
Had Edwards responded as 99% of us would have, by pointing out that they had indeed already met, Cheney had some kind of Benson to Quale ultimate put down planned. Something like, "I'm sorry Senator, I'm sure you're right. But I guess it didn't make much of an impression on me." Some real, snide, condescending put down to make Edwards look like a kid.
Well, Edwards didn't take the bait. Trial lawyers are trained never to ask a question they don't know the answer to. Edwards, in this instance, just took that training and applied it to the principal never respond to an attack you don't know the purpose of.
Edwards said something like this to himself. "This is too much of a softball. He knows we've met twice before. He must have something up his sleeve with this. Just let it go. Just let it go."
And so the hunter gets caught in his own trap.
Very, very smart on Edwards' part. Very, very smart.

1. I tend to think you are right
The RW pundits are so "proud" to know that Cheney said he had never met Edwards, even though it was a bogus statement.

4. What was it that Joe Scarborough said. .
something about Cheney went hunting and caught a squirrel? Hmm--I'd say that John Edwards went hunting and came back with a huge, lying-ass bear named Dick Cheney!

8. all you had to do was listen to his ffffing DAUGHTER last night
on ABC, or the two monsters themselves: CHeneydick and the Dragonlady today, making FUN of Edwards' attendance in the senate to realize that you're completely correct in your assessment

THANKS! I was pissed he couldn't remember, or wouldn't counter it, and I think you hit the head on the nail with that!

good thinking!

5. And besides...
Given that Edwards missed a combined three votes in 2001 and 2002, the first two years of the B/C administration, it means that Edwards was there. Was Cheney?

3. Could be..but I was thinking about this
and I was wondering if for some reason Cheney did this to make sure it WAS A TOPIC today, instead of some other topic he doesn't want discussed.

7. Doesn't matter about what
the public now has proof, proof positive that this administration lies about matters both large and small. Trust me, it's very devastating.

6. Whenever Cheney attacked him on his senate attendance record,
he avoided defending himself and instead attacked Cheney on his miserable senate voting record and on Halliburton. This made Cheney very uncomfortable. It was very smart.
