YES WE CAN!!! At last, on the road to meaningful health care reform!
It's an amazing night.

And now, it's on to the senate!

2. meaningful?
meaningless is more like it.

45 million new forced customers for the greedy criminals, fines enforced by the IRS for anyone who dares not comply. Public option? Maybe for 3 people in 2015, if they're lucky.

Where's the REFORM?

6. You can sacrifice the good for the perfect all you want
But once we get a bill in front of the president, it will be proven once and for all that we can reform healthcare.

This bill is part of a movement, not a monument, to paraphrase Paul Begala. Social Security and Medicare weren't perfect at first, and still are not -- but they were improved over the years.

The Senate will be a big hurdle, but I am heartened by tonights vote that we can get it done there, too.

7. First step - I agree
Small one, but important and maybe bigger in the overall picture of reforming health care. I'm worried about the punishments attached to mandates, though - jail, big fines, and/or IRS harrassment are just too much. Maybe that can be addressed in committee?

8. I think you need to educate yourself about this bill
Today if you don't pay your taxes, you get fined.

You can not abstract out what you describe from the whole bill.

11. I mean no ill. So I'm sorry if I came across that way.
I've been debating on DU all day about the right wing talking point about imprisonment if you don't have coverage.

It's been a long, but wonderful, day!

:)

13. You can bribe criminals to act less criminal but it won't work. But i'm glad you are happy.
I'm profoundly sad that our big opportunity for real reform became instead the health care industrial complex bailout bill.

It will cover more people, for a little while, but it is unsustainable because there is no cost containment. So people who get coverage will see it cut, people who have it will see it cut, and soon we will be right back where we are today. Except poorer.

I had hoped for a long term solution instead of a band aide.

I'm happy for you that you are able to believe giving more money to the crooks and liars will make them be less crooks and liars. It must be nice to be so naive.

i see you are still calling this 'health care reform' instead of what the White House started calling it, 'Insurance reform.'

You are projecting , but hey, project away.

Abandoning Medicare for a brand new vehicle of reform doesn't bode well for future reform. Medicare was the beginning and this is a step backwards from that. I see this as a bigger win for the health care industrial complex than i do for the people of this country.
