It's on: Sharpton vs Limbaugh
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/10/17/sharpton-threatens-suit-against-limbaugh/

<snip>
WASHINGTON (CNN)– Reverend Al Sharpton and his lawyers say they are preparing to file a defamation lawsuit against conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh for an op-ed published Saturday, which Sharpton alleges "erroneously" characterizes his (Sharpton's) role in a string of violent incidents in New York in the early 90's.

In the op-ed published in Saturday's Wall Street Journal Limbaugh writes Sharpton "played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews ‘diamond merchants’) and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot."

3. surely you can't compare Rev Al and the loudmouth junkie?
At least the Rev is drawing fire that might otherwise be aimed at lesser famous activists, who would then suffer like Wade Churchill did fighting good fight for the 1st nations (aka injuns) limbah-humbug is just a well paid terrorist thug yelling 'fire' in the crowded theatre of frightful rightwingers!

13. I'm no big fan of Sharpton's. But they really are very different.

Sharpton is a black activist. He has a cause, and in a lot of instances is truly trying to get national attention on one or another incident, for the hope that one day such incidents of racism and hate won't happen. He doesn't check his facts always. He's gotten it wrong sometimes. Like most activists, they get so wrapped up in their causes they can't see the truth sometimes. And he never apologizes when he's wrong, as far as I know. There IS a history of racism in our country. There was an actual organization - the KKK - that focused on harming and killing and hating other people because of their race religion.

Limpballs, OTOH, is a "hate radio" talk show host. He has no "cause," as such. He tries to further the various causes of the right wingnuts in our society. Rather than trying to work against hatred, he is the instigator of it. For this, he gets a significant salary. He doesn't travel around the country selecting incidents where people have been reportedly harmed, and shine a light on the supposed injustice. He sits behind a microphone and furthers the causes of the far right, never taking on the cause of the underclass.

They are very different in their intent, their method, and their words.

14. I don't care what Sharpton is, I just want him and Limburger to do
each other in. I find Sharpton smart and funny a lot of the time but I also think he is a con too. A likable con but a con none the less.

15. Sharpton, Like limbaugh, is funded by the rightwing--look at the FEC records.
Sleeping With the GOP

A Bush Covert Operative Takes Over Al Sharpton's Campaign

Wayne Barrett with special reporting by Adam Hutton and Christine Lagorio
Roger Stone, the longtime Republican dirty-tricks operative who led the mob that shut down the Miami-Dade County recount and helped make George W. Bush president in 2000, is financing, staffing, and orchestrating the presidential campaign of Reverend Al Sharpton.

Though Stone and Sharpton have tried to reduce their alliance to a curiosity, suggesting that all they do is talk occasionally, a Voice investigation has documented an extraordinary array of connections. Stone played a pivotal role in putting together Sharpton's pending application for federal matching funds, getting dollars in critical states from family members and political allies at odds with everything Sharpton represents. He's also helped stack the campaign with a half-dozen incongruous top aides who've worked for him in prior campaigns. He's even boasted about engineering six-figure loans to Sharpton's National Action Network (NAN) and allowing Sharpton to use his credit card to cover thousands in NAN costs—neither of which he could legally do for the campaign. In a wide-ranging Voice interview Sunday, Stone confirmed his matching-fund and staffing roles, but refused to comment on the NAN subsidies.

17. Sharpton is a signpost.
I have always believed that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are primarily useful to the mainstream media as symbols of excessive liberal victimhood. Their appearance in any dispute accomplishes at least two things. 1) It displaces coverage of other spokesmen for the particular cause who might carry less personal baggage and be viewed more sympathetically, and 2) it signals dittoheads and their ilk that the position that they are espousing is the "wrong" side of the issue and can automatically be opposed.

7. Al may be a little crazy
But BS, jive and all... he's a far better man than Flush Twice.

I wish we could have guest hosts in the "White House Spokesman" position - Al would rule! But then again, I'd like to see Jack Nicholson and Bill Parcells guest too.

8. The suit will never happen.
Sharpton would have to be deposed and answer any question Limbaugh's lawyers would ask him. He would never allow that to happen.

18. Last week, Limbaugh said he was going to sue Sharpton
It would be fun to watch them sue each other. Much about Limbaugh could be learned from discovery. Both suits would fail if taken to court.
