that the bill is far from perfect and a public option is still needed, but the process needs to move foward

5. Yes. This is only one of five bills that will be merged together. This will first be merged
with the senate HELP bill, after which that bill will be merged with the three committee bills from the house. Still much work to be hammered out, but things are finally moving forward.

9. That's exactly what I was thinking. But I don't know what happens if they vote the Baucus bill down.
If other threads have credibility, then voting it down would be tantamount to no bill at all?

10. Groan. You people aren't paying attention.
There will be a public option in THE bill that goes to Obama to sign.

This is merely procedural as this bill, piece of shit that it is, has to get out of committee in order to move the process forward.

The public option will either be added to the combined Senate bill or will be added in conference after the Senate passes a bill without the public option.

But it will be in the final bill.

You all need to go back and study your old high school civics textbooks so taht you understand when news is actually bad and when it's jsut part of the sausage making process. If you are going to watch the sausage making process, you need to have some idea of what's going on.

This news isn't the least bit bad, even for the most progressive among us. We knew the finance committee's bill would suck. But it's only one of the Senate committee bills that will be merged before the Senate votes.

Relax.

Which is why I replied to your OP. But it wasn't meant for you.

20. I endorse CTDs post
The bill out of that committee sucks, but a bill MUST come out of that committee.

Rockefeller had a statement to that effect when he voted for it.

15. He's doing it to get the bill out of committee because we need to get going on something and the
house will pass a strong bill with a public option and the Senate may not but it will have to be reconciled. We cannot do anything with a bill just languishing in committee.

17. EXACTLY. The abuse on Jay Rockefeller here is totally unwarranted.
Get it out of committee and then join with like minds in the house to put the pressure on to have a TRUE public option.

Frankly, I wish the whole thing would be scrapped and we just simply offer Medicare For All - eliminate health insurance as a completely unproductive middleman - and be done with it.
