Do You Think Obama Talked Down to Africans in Accra, Ghana?
I've been pondering this question ever since he gave the speech. It came off as very parent-like, almost as if he were talking to children. I actually notice he does this alot with PEOPLE, and not really the elites as much. He doesn't talk down to Wall Street on national TV, or the banks. But with regards to Africa in general, yea a lot of the more recent activity is partially their fault..but a ton of it stems from foreign influence. Why doesn't Obama talk of how many African countries are still fighting to claim their own natural resources from Western institutions that milk them of their profit? Or the many other factors plaguing Africa? Instead he opts for the POV that will favor Western forces the most in blaming Africans for all of their problems which is a gross falsehood.

6. I agree that Africa was totally screwed by colonialism.

However, I think it is good that Obama is using his popularity and following to try to inspire people to do better. It is much better for African people that someone with African roots not only be an example, but also encourage them not to be defeated by their circumstances. However, I think there are more concrete ways to help. Lucky Dube, one of my favorite musicians preached to his followers, but that did not help him.

12. Well...
...when shit is fucked up and someone comes in to tell the truth, sometimes it may appear they are talking down.

Regardless of the reasons for the problems in much of Africa (you can blame much on Colonialism - but raping babies to cure aids, gangraping lesbians to cure them, continued slavery and genocide due to centuries old tribalism is all local to the region), it is time to look ahead and begin fixing the problems. It will take a couple of generations at the very least.
