Fox Radio Broadcasts Bigot Pastor Praying for the Death of the President.

The Rev. Wiley Drake, pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif., told Fox News Radio earlier this month that he was practicing “imprecatory prayer” – a divine curse – that would bring about Obama’s death.

“So you’re praying for his death?” asked the show’s host, Alan Colmes.

“Yes.”

“So you’re praying for the death of the president of the United States?”

“Yes.”

The pugnacious pastor later elaborated: “If he does not turn to God and does not turn his life around, I am asking God to enforce imprecatory prayers that are throughout the Scripture that would cause him death, that’s correct.”

There is a law against this, its meaning is clear, the enforcement of that law has been less than clear especially among blogs. I will out white nationalists - even to their employers. I will even out racists who sit on Committees of groups fighting racism, largely because they are far more dangerous than the typical skinhead / thug white nationalist.

At what level should hate speech be stopped?

2. Don't those clowns get all pissy about 'witches' and curses?
So, it's OK if THEY do it?

I actually had a fundy seriously question whether I had put 'a hair loss curse' on him. I figured it was pointless to try and explain genetics to him so I said "yeah and settle down or it'll get worse."

Teh stoopid can pay off some great dividends if we play them right.

8. The point I am making (and have done before in my journal)
is that these threats are becoming increasingly acceptable to make. I think that such a threat should always be highlighted. Progressive blogs should expel immediately any such poster or any key "front page" poster that has gone on to encourage such statements. Blog hosts should report thse to the Secret Service.

NeoNazis used to be associated with skin heads and tattoos. That may not always be the case.

because- for good reason? they think that the Obama administration lacks the guts to de-consolidate and re-regulate the corporate media.

12. You are missing the point of the post.
I know Fox has lots of extremists on it. Far more on the radio than the TV. In fact they use their extremism to "sell" their own brand of soap/religion.

My point is that if this was said by someone during the Bush years on 60 minutes all kinds of mess would been generated. If this is said now by a mad Pastor, people say this is all very bad and shrug it off. If this kind of thing is encouraged by someone who the media uses as a go to feminist (who also claims to be an SLPC supporter) it will be totally ignored.

My main concern is that hate does not need to come wearing a pointy hat.

24. I can assure you, we'd have said something about it then too.
While true that FOX is a hate-filled propaganda machine who does, in fact, ENDORSE views like this, any news outlet who gave airtime to a maniac like this would warrant a mention on DU no doubt about that.

"Drake also is chaplain to the Minuteman Project, a group that President George W. Bush called “vigilantes.” He was Alan Keyes’ vice-presidential running mate on the America’s Independent Party ticket in 2008."

And to think they only came in 15th place on a ballot with 6 names on it. Is there anything worse than people who use scripture, words of supposed healing and guidance, to pray for the deaths of others?

14. Remember when a college student asked Jesus to smite Bush and the SS got involved?
http://www.freedomforum.org/templates/document.asp?documentID=13112

NEW YORK — The Secret Service has been accused of trampling on the free-speech rights of a college student who wrote a satirical editorial asking Jesus to "smite" President Bush.

The letter was published last week in the Stony Brook Press at the State University of New York campus in Stony Brook. It was written by Glenn Given, 22, the paper's managing editor.

Titled "Editorial: Dear Jesus Christ, King of all Kings, All I ask is that you smite George W. Bush," it also asked Jesus to strike down Bush's cabinet and MTV personality Carson Daly.

A faculty member apparently contacted authorities.

Given said two Secret Service agents and a campus police officer showed up Feb. 14 to interrogate him.

They had him sign waivers authorizing them to check his medical records, threatened to charge him with a crime and searched his apartment, according to a letter of protest sent to the Secret Service by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.

"The editorial was clearly a form of satire and political hyperbole" in response to Bush's well-publicized devotion to Christianity, the letter said. "We believe it is inappropriate to harass a journalist, editor, writer or citizen for exercising his or her right to free speech."

Given said his work was "a piece of absurdity."

Tony Ball, a Secret Service spokesman in Washington, D.C., said the agency had received the letter, but declined to discuss the case.

"We take all threats seriously," Ball said. "We don't have the luxury to do otherwise."

22. Hey now.
The word isn't the problem.

Morons who don't know what they're talking about is the problem.

I'm happy to talk scripture with anybody who knows "four-source", or "Q gospel", but it's a safe bet that anybody who doesn't understand those terms has absolutely no authority, or education, or ability, to discuss biblical scripture.

Why not for advocating the death of an elected one? The IRS needs to check out the First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif. ASAP.

threatening the President with prayer is like threatening the President with an army of soldiers riding unicorns. It is an example of hate but the level of how unlawful it is depends upon how much you believe prayer works.

31. Well, that's where I get stuck on this thing....

He is not saying "I want to kill the president".

He is not saying "I want you, Joe Blow, to kill the president".

He is asking an invisible sky being to kill the president.

Now, this particular sky being has allegedly been in the smiting business for a long time, and is said to have smote quite a number of rulers who were displeasing to him. Considering the power attributed to this particular smiter, though, it seems pretty likely that this character would have been able to prevent the election of a smite-worthy president but, hey, mysterious ways and all that.

I doubt one would find more than a tiny fraction of other believers in this deity who share this lunatic's views on the subject, and it is well beyond likely that said sky being would be among them.

30. Worst is the fact
that this pastor believes President Obama should die. He must believe every single crazy allegation against President Obama that has ever been made. And these allegations even break the previous record set against President Clinton. This serves to illustrate just how insane these fringe groups are. But it is nearly mainstream GOP.
