South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) is missing
The whereabouts of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) "have been unknown to state officials since Thursday, and some state leaders are questioning who is in charge of the executive office," reports the Columbia State.

"Neither the governor's office nor the State Law Enforcement Division has been able to reach Sanford, who left the mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV."

"Sanford's last known whereabouts were near Atlanta, where a mobile telephone tower picked up a signal from his phone, authorities said."

According to WCBD-TV, the First Lady said he "has been gone for several days and she doesn't know where, but she is not concerned."

7. "Some people say" he was spending Father's Day weekend with
his mistress and their children. I have no facts or link to back this up, but "some people say" seems to be passable enough to at least start a rumor....

Governors don't just disappear for no reason. They always keep in touch with their staffers, let alone their family. Something's fishy........

29. Not really - it seems he doesn't want to be found for a few days
Gov. Mark Sanford's wife said Monday the two-term Republican chief executive has been gone for several days and she doesn't know where. Sanford's staff won't say where he is.

First lady Jenny Sanford tells The Associated Press her husband said he needed time away from their children to write something. She says she's not concerned.
...
Spokesman Joel Sawyer says Sanford was taking time to "recharge" after his failed fight.

Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer said he didn't know where Sanford is but said he had not been put in charge.

Slightly worrying that they treat the governorship as something you can leave for several days, and not even appoint a deputy.

25. Well the GOP loses another possible 2012 standard bearer
There are about 208 articles (from google) on this. For many people there first introduction is that he is mysteriously gone. Unless there is a real good explanation this has to be as damaging to him as Jindal's response to Obama's speech was to him.

27. This truly has to be the STRANGEST thing I've seen in the news in years?!?!?!
Governors, while they do enjoy a greater degree of freedom and autonomy, have 24-hour security details.

This is the weirdest thing I've ever heard....they're trying to locate him by pinging his cell phone!?!?!?

First Ensign is taken down by an affair. Now Sanford is missing. Anyone checked where the Governor of Alaska is?

In all seriousness this is bizarre and it will be interesting to see what comes of it.

It's got to be some kind of cover-up, cat-and-mouse chirade, as one would only assume his wife would be much more concerned about a 4-day absence....

28. So his chief of staff knows where he is, but his wife doesn't. And
his cell phone is turned off. Excuse me, but when you're the governor of a state, you don't get to turn your cell phone off.

How bizarre. I think Sanford just flushed his career down the toilet.
