Clarence Thomas "I can bring something different to the court" because I'm black

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/30/clarence-thomas-on-walkin_n_209376.html

"I can walk in the shoes of the people who are affected by what the Court does," says Thomas, in a quote that surfaced on Friday in print but not video. "You know, on my current court I have occasion to look out the window that faces C Street, and there are converted buses that bring in the criminal defendants to our criminal justice system, bus load after bus load. And you look out and you say to yourself, and I say to myself almost every day, 'But for the grace of God there go I.'"

more, and video, at link.

1. Oh, but that's not racist, Clarence is a Republican and Republicans aren't racist
Didn't you know that? :sarcasm:

In seriousness, I get what he was saying and it's one of the only things he's said that I actually think he's right about.

4. I agree with what he is saying but---
He never says anything in the court!

Has he written any opinions? Made any statements? ANYTHING?

HE just does whatever Scalia does. He COULD have brought a different perspective, but he didn't.

12. I hate these bait-and-switch tag lines.
If your point is inconsequential without them, why bother?

Do you get special points for the number of people who click the link? (i.e., people you have fooled)

21. And quote Alito, too. Can't remember what channel, but I saw a clip of him during his hearing
and he said something to the effect of: "Being the child of immigrants lends me a certain perspective." (paraphrased)

So, what else is new? It's OK for GOP nominees to do and say certain things, but not OK when a DEM nominee does. They are flagrant, transparent hypocrites.

7. Thomas is truly stupid and unqualified.
He never belonged on the court.

And he never brings any thought or human
experience into his decisions, except
to quietly go along with the horrible
rightwing Scalia.

15. how does one end up on the Supreme Court but never ask questions
really, how can anyone who supported him or even supported Bush want to question Sotomayors qualifications.

19. Amen!
That's Thomas in a nutshell.

What an insult to the late great Thurgood Marshall whom he replaced!

His nomination to the SC as a patent sop to the RW is just one of many actions that I still am unable to forgive Bush I for doing.

11. Thomas is bringing the kind of racial self hate that only a black man can bring to other blacks
That self-hate makes Scalia look like a teddy bear by comparison.

17. I'm Black and Clarence Thomas is not Black
in my book.

He used that to make some think he would bring some justice to the table.

NO Clarence ~

20. The issue is with the word "better"
The Right is hanging on the fact that Sotomayor used the word "better" as opposed to "different".
