I support our president, and stand with him. I don't always agree - not by a long shot. But after the extraordinary evil of the past eight years, I am not ready to jump on the Limbaugh-Hannity-Fox bandwagon, either.

Ultimate "straw man" issue here. You can admire and support President Obama, yet disagree with him. And when you support him, it no way in hell means you are part of "Teenbeat Obama."

Great speech, and I am concentrating on that now.

P.S.: Go Wings.

7. Amen to that.
I find it disgusting that anyone who's not rabidly attacking Obama is characterized as being brain dead, cultists, or hero-worshipping.

2. I'm checking in here. Good post.
I have very mixed feeling about Obama since he took office but today I feel about him the way I did during the campaign - pure admiration.

4. Absolutely and those within Notre Dame are showing
that Catholics are not in lockstep with the extremists, including those who now reside in the Vatican... Good on them. They are doing a tremendous service in showing the respect and moderation of true Catholics, true Christians.

8. I don't know where the crazy Catholics come from...
all the Catholics I've ever known were the coolest people. Just wonderful. I think a lot of the fundies have hijacked this cause as well.

than those of us who are progressive Catholics.

15. Indeed, which is the real reason for the ND controversy
The reason for the controversy over Obama speaking at Notre Dame is because of internal battles among Catholics, Obama merely symbolizes what progressive Catholics and hardcore rightwinger Catholics disagree with each other on.

But that doesn't mean that Obama can't be damaged by this, unfortunately polls are showing his support among Catholics dropping some, with something like 6 to 10 percent (I forget the exact number) less Catholics approving of the job he's doing then the percentage of Catholics who voted for him.

I support my President, but am still extremely disappointed that he appears to be giving the Bush/Cheney war crimes a pass. I mean I'm devastated. Still, like you, I remember the evil of the past 8 years and I'm sure not going to jump on President Obama like I do the Republicans because he didn't make this mess. Neither did Pelosi. They aren't the guilty ones, however, they may very well be complicit if they halt due process. I was a huge fan and then the bubble was popped less than a week ago. It's just not the same, now.

:hi:

About Obama - I $upported as well as caucused and voted for him. But I also expected to disagree with some policies and make that known to him within our system. How others feel about that doesn't really concern me.

9. Alan Keyes
That describes his opposition in one simple short-handed way.

His speech is interesting on two levels. One, he is clearly talking to the kids graduating, after all it is THEIR celebration and their day.
Second, he has taken it to the face of all the opposition that tried to attack and cut his knees from under him.
And he is doing it in a very classy and well thought out way.

Go Blackhawks! (Now, here's a divide that cannot be bridged!)

16. I respect and admire this President.
I trust that he'll do the best he can for our country.

... and no, I don't think he's perfect or walks on water or any of that. He's human. He needs our support.

GObama!! Yes we can!

19. Where can I subscribe to Teenbeat Obama?
wasn't there a lot of hulaballo on this board about how the word "poutrage" hurts people feelings and people begged Skinner to ban people who used it.

Yet "hero worship" and "cult" and "teenbeat Obama" are fine? Fuck that.

he's so un-disagreeable. MANY examples in today's speech.

Would be good if more folks around here could do that.
