Right wing extremism report threat from DHS has all the right in a tizzy
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 08:45 AM by Peacetrain
A study came out about the threat from right wing extremists who are one issue types, and the whole right wing blog has exploded.

Interesting reaction if you ask me.

Because the uber right still tries to paint the left with the excesses of the left extremists of the 60's.. over 40 years ago.. and fails to recognize how radicalized in a negative way they have become.

Who were the militias of the 80's.. not the left?
Who attacked the country, and killed over 168 people.. McVeigh was steeped in right wing extremism?
Who has been attacking police and taking lives currently?

And if you want to define right wing extremism is its totality.. who attacked us on 9/11.. right wing extremists from Saudi Arabia.

It is what it is.. No one should have their civil rights curtailed, and that is free speech by even the most heinous (as long as they do not call for violence against another human being), but we have to be aware of people acting our their fantasies.

1. I agree with most of what you say, but..

..wouldn't label the Saudi terrorists as "right wing," because I don't think it's fair to place our political labels on a group like this.

2. Actually they are the right wing of the faith...
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 08:53 AM by Peacetrain
Bin Laden and his ilk, have bastardized Islamic traditions for political gains.. the Taliban, the Islamic fundamentalist schools in Saudi Arabia (having a brain hiccup this AM, can't remember the name) are in the most extreme right..

Let me edit to add: granted they are not our right wing domestic threat, (they are our right wing international threat).. I was just using an example of international right wing threats to expand my original idea

14. They are right wing
the believe in authoritarian rule by a few, religion forced upon all, limited rights for women and a perverse form of capitalism where the ruling class stays very rich and out of generosity, take care of the poor.

4. Matt "I hate America" Drudge is using the report to push them further toward violence
posting a headline about how the government is watching you.

9. Joe Scarborough was ranting and raving about it this morning - but admitted he hadn't even read it
But he carried on like a maniac. His focus was on the section of the report that said that some returning soldiers are likely to be targeted by these groups because of their desire for their military skills and the ability to exploit their economic insecurity and hatred of President Obama. He twisted this into Homeland Security targeting for surveillance and possible harrassment military personnel who have conservative views. It was frightening and bizarre - this is dangerous demagoguery.

He and MSNBC need to be called on this BIG TIME. This is completely irresponsible and very dangerous.

21. He had the same right wing talking points that were passed
out to every right wing talk show host in the country. Every show from local nutbags to national ones like Rush, Sean and Joe were all saying the exact same thing. Their fucking phony outrage over everything is getting to be a bit much.

6. I think they are full of it about the increases in guns and ammo.
From what they do say about the increase seems to be taken from one article at the beginning of the year where Walmart shoppers bought more ammo because of a tax increase, and I think this is what they are basing the whole increase on.

I never see any statistics or anything on sales. I say it's BS.

8. Ammo prices have skyrocketed
in the past couple years with the biggest jumps happening since Obama was elected.

There are several reasons for this. Fear and loathing in the US, two wars burning up supplies as well as the Pentagon starting the practice of shedding all used brass shell casings prior to selling them.

The shredding has been stopped, but the last two reasons I listed had a major effect on .223 and .308 cartridges that are fairly popular and when the price of those two jump the rest just follow. That has caused a lot of people to stockpile. The manufactures are hinting at no new product for sale for up to one year, that includes sales to police.

Right now even the re-loaders are feeling the pinch. There is a shortage of rifle and pistol powder, primer, and projectiles. Shotgun stuff isn't all that hard to find for now.

I have paid up to six times the price on some ammo that I paid just a few years ago.

12. I think ammo should be 5k a bullet
That way, if people ever want to shoot some one, they HAD to be worth it.

7. It's a trap! Wait until they finish shooting their load
about it, then it will be revealed that most of the stuff in the report was passed on to the Obama administration by the Bush administration, just like they pass on other stuff.

I can't wait. It was the Bush administration who identified risky right wing elements, particularly "disgruntled war veterans", and for damn good reason seeing as how he sent them to war for a lie.

Hold on to your hats. This is going to get real good.

And this despite the smackdown of Ed Henry.

16. Left wing "extremists" tend to fight against
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 11:04 AM by SoCalDem
ORGANIZATIONS
INSTITUTIONS

and occasionally some people have been hurt/killed, but the GOAL of those organizations usually is NOT at a harm to/death of a particular person, or a class/race/ group..

The assassins we know "best" have come from the right..and with their bullets, have changed history in so many horrbile ways.... and whiny sissy crybabies that they are, they always flee the scene afterwards, when according to their bluster and bravado, they should stand firm and admit to their actions...but they always have to be hunted down like the diseased animals they are

18. Thats not entirely accurate,
but I understand where you are coming from.

Lets not forget the victims of the Cuban revolution, the Russian revolution and it's many purges.

When the numbers of the dead get so large they are no longer considered assassinations, the people are still just as dead.

19. Once again, RWTR makes up their own "facts"
From the link:

But conservative radio talk show host Roger Hedgecock was not persuaded. "If the Bush administration had done this to left-wing extremists, it would be all over the press as an obvious trampling of the First Amendment rights of folks and dissent," he told CNN.

In fact, the Obama administration in January did issue a warning about left-wing extremists. Both reports were initiated during the administration of former President George W. Bush.
