Obama Admits "The Buck Stops With Me"! Republicans Will Go Wild With Glee!
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 12:51 PM by Median Democrat
Didn't Obama learn anything from Bush? First, you should not do so many interviews and press conferences. Second, never ever admit any fault, and if you have to, then have a lower rung official take the fall. Third, if you do admit fault, then use passive voice "Mistakes Were Made."

The American people don't really want accountability. They want happy talk. They want government to orchestrate ponzi schemes resulting in the merger of companies to make bigger companies in order to avoid a bailout until the last possible minute when the bailout becomes huges, as was the case with the mergers leading to the September 2008 meltdown.

Obama taking the fall for Bush? Sounds like a mistake to me. The Republicans want to point fingers, and Obama just stood in the line of fire.

The president said he wants legislation providing greater regulation of financial institutions like AIG so taxpayers won't be left "holding the bag" when companies fail.

"As we work toward getting ourselves out of the recession, I hope that Wall Street and the marketplace doesn't think that we can return to business as usual," he said.

"The buck stops with me," Obama told reporters.

We say we want a President to take responsibility, but this may very well demonstrate the downside of actually trying to do this. Bush managed to survive eight years of fuck ups by avoiding blame. Even Bill Clinton ducked questions on small issues like his infidelity, but he also easily won two terms.

Accepting responsibility will result in a one year term for Obama.

1. Obama Is A Man And He's Taking Responsibility
Who cares what the dead ender Repubs will whine and gnash their teeth about? The rest of us will breath in the fresh air of a President taking responsbility, rolling up his sleeves and getting things done.

4. Trying To Decide Whether I Am Being Sarcastic Or Cynical
We need a cynicism smiley. I think Obama taking the heat, will illustrate how high minded ideals often get crushed by the cynical reality of politics. The Republicans will now run hours of commercials blaming Obama for the AIG fiasco, and the corporate media will eat it up, and ignore that AIG failed under Dubya's watch in September 2008.

19. that is already the case..
that is being made. I'm going to do the canvassing thing this weekend, if for no other reason than to see what reality looks like away from the parrots of the tv.

7. Rush Limbaugh Will Run The Buck Stops With Me Quote On Endless Loop
The Republicans snear at responsibility. They were blaming Obama for the recession before he even took office. The WSJ blamed the recession, which began on December 2007, on Obama within his first 50 days of office.

Again, Bush managed to skate by for eight freakin years by never accepting the blame. Heck of a job Brownie. Yet, there's Obama taking the hit.

I hate to see idealism crushed by political reality.

9. He Just Gave The RW A Talking Point - Elect GOP, And We Will Impeach Him
He admitted that the buck stops with him. Remember what the right wing did with Bill Clinton, and he DENIED that he had sex with Monica.

12. Saying the buck stops with him is something the country hasn't heard from
their president for the last 8 years. It doesn't matter what the RWers will try to put on him. It won't stick. And if you seriously think he'll be impeached, you are crazy.

13. You Think The Right Wing Will Provide Context? Responsibility Is An Anethma In Politics
Republicans cringe from responsibility, and hypocritically attack those who accept any blame. Worse, Fox News has convinced millions of Americans that Republican values are American and virtuous. Idealism will get crushed by cold hard reality as Fox News and CNBC go 24/7 with stories about how Obama is the root of all evil.

11. Americans love this kind of Harry Truman manly responsibility talk. Republicans have no clue.
Voters also know who's fault this recession is... and they also can see that the market has been steadily improving under Obama,
so this glee is mere dancing on their own party's grave.

14. Really? How Do You Explain Bush The Infallible?
The problem I see is Bush the infallible got elected to a second term. AFTER ENRON! Bush was buddies with Kenneth Lay! Cheney made Enron a player in developing energy policy! Yet Cheney and Bush never accepted responsibility, and Bush were re-elected.

15. Repubs. would've been happy if Obama had made excuses and blamed someone else.
They will NOT be happy that he is taking responsibility. Comparing him and AIG to Clinton and Lewinsky is ridiculous.

he'd take some questions. He didn't HAVE to, of course, but he, unlike Bush, faces the music.

21. I disagree. The Republicans are going to blame him no matter what.
It is better to face the music and stand strong than hide. It makes a sharp contrast from Bush.
