Can you feel the hate? Am I the only one?
The GOP is trashing the 3 centrists at every turn.

I was just on anther blog, and the wingnuts are overflowing with venom.

Listened to Hannity during the drive home, and he sounded like he wanted to take a contract out on Specter.

Reminds me of how they trashed in insulted Jeffords in 2001.

1. The Republicans are really Stalinists.
Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 07:47 PM by madaboutharry
They are like the inner workings of the former Soviet government. Priviledge for the few, no dissent, no freedom of thought, and most of all no Democracy.

They are vile and hate filled people.

42. Another similarity:
They use fear as their main weapon and tactic.

Stalin justified his repression and own personal paranoia by seeing enemies everywhere.

Today's Republicans see terrrrists, towel-heads, libbruls, tax-and-spend Democrats and
gun-confiscating godless forces coming to force their children into interracial gay
partnerships against their will.

Same tactics, different cast of characters.

It's a bit disconcerting. Those fuckers are normally hateful, but way more so since Obama was sworn in. My Uncle is practically unhinged. I hope Specter, Collins and Snowe have adequate protection.

I have no hatred for our centrist, just disappointment. The Rethug leadership/punditry will next accuse Snowe, Collins, and Spector of palling around with terrorists. I would not put anything past them.

38. They weren't too keen on Bush or Cheney around the election.
They were tripping over each other trying to get away from the fall of the Bush regime.
They will be losing many seats in both houses next election, and they are starting to realise that.

however, they can't last long as it is evil.

Evil eventually destroys itself given the very nature of what it is.

This is what we are now witnessing IMO.

10. Maybe it'll be enough to convince them.
There is nothing reasonable, moderate, intelligent, or truly patriotic about today's Republican Party.

Maybe the GOP hate being piled onto these last three rational Republicans will be enough to convince them it's time to abandon the dregs remaining. They could either go independent like Jeffords did or join us and be welcomed.

20. I wrote Sen Specter a letter thanking him
for having the courage to cast his vote based on what he believed to be the best thing for America and his constituents. I watched him in several interviews, and frankly, he reminds me of my Republican grandparents; people who put service above pleasure, whose word meant everything, etc. Good people. they would not recognize the current GOP. I may not agree with Sen Specter on many issues, but I recognize integrity and courage when I see it, and it's worth noting.

It certainly is rare enough.

He knows he killed his political career, but he said he didn't run for office to take care of his political career.

He's a patriot and I'm terribly sorry it's going to cost him his job. Shame on the GOP for crucifying him for voting his conscience.

He was the only R who didn't vote to boot Clinton out of office. He couldn't make himself say "Not guilty," but said "not proved." If we ever break up the logjam of R stubborn self-interest, Specter will be one of the early ones to come to the light. If...

21. Groupthink
They'll do anything to enforce conformity. However, when a few people defect from the group, more often follow. The pressure on this three will be intense, but (according to the theory) more and more people will now feel it's safe to defect. I believe I've seen a post here today about a few House Rs and a more Senate Rs who've said they'll vote against their party and for Obama's jobs program.

Up until now, their only strength has been their willingness to march in lockstep. Once that falls apart, I hope many will start worrying about their own careers and break up the logjam. I honestly believe what they're doing now is political suicide except.

24. You will continue to feel the hate rise as the GOP fails to paint Obama in a bad light
They are fuming because they spent so much time and effort on trying to trash a bill that could help us and add to Obama's popularity. When it passes and we slowly see improvements, the gOP get further and further from their goal of being back in power. As they sit their feeling frustration and helplessness, you will hear more and more anger being spewed.

32. Yes, and it scares me since they are so easily led by the likes of a Rush L.
Many of these people are overly emotional anyway, and to have Hannity, Rush and some of the RW commentators feeding their venom over the airwaves, just makes them worse. By the time it makes it from one group to another, the story is so warped it further warps their minds.

That's why I fear for the safety of our people.

they can throw all the tantrums they want; it's not going to matter. They're outnumbered and they know it. And they'll just get uglier and uglier - which of course, will only solidify their minority position...

I rather enjoy watching them digging their own political graves.
