"Same People Who Told Us The Economy Is Going Just Great"
Why Americans should NEVER trust Republicans again and why they should definitely not believe them about the stimulus plan:

on TV last August, saying the economy was "fine". Idjit.

3. THIS is the economy the Republicans have been working for.
That's why Americans should never trust Republicans.

4. Another reason

Another reason to not trust the Republicans is as follows. Lately I have seen more than one Republican including good old Newt Gingrich suggest this as part of a solution to our economic woes. Specifically to cut the payroll taxes in half for at least a year. To Joe six-pack this probably sounds great because as the Republicans 'smirkily' (is that a word?) say 'it puts money in their pockets right away'. Why do I say don't trust them? Well, one of the things that Republicans have tried to do over the last 50+ years is to kill programs like Social Security and Medicare. The biggest chunk of payroll taxes are Social Security payments which we have already been warned will go bankrupt sometime after 2020 if nothing is done. So what we see here is the Republicans trying to double dip up front they claim to be helping Joe six-pack when in reality what they are really trying to do is take another big step in killing Social Security. Don't think that after the 1 year they propose and people get used to the extra cash that they won't, again to 'help the people', try to make the cuts permanent just like they did with Bushes 'temporary' tax cuts for the wealthy. Of course, when the Democrats point out that the money is needed for Social Security the Republicans will claim the 'tax and spend' Democrats are just trying to take more money out of tax payers pockets.
