NY State Tax Dept: "No problems with CKS taxes"; CKS: Paterson is a Mudslinger
So far the attacks on CKS have been rumors. Whatever her personal reasons were to leave, that's what they are, "personal" and none of our business. LEAVE CAROLINE ALONE!! ;)

Even though many Democrats had thought Paterson was going to appoint Kennedy, a person close to the governor said Thursday that Paterson had no intention of picking her because he believed she handled herself poorly in introducing herself as a candidate. The person also said there were concerns about possible tax problems, a potential "nanny problem," and rumors her marriage was on the rocks.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak for the governor.

Kennedy spokesman Stefan Friedman would not detail her reasons for withdrawing, but complained: "This kind of mudslinging demeans that process and all those involved."

The state tax department said it could not find any problems with Kennedy's tax records. In a December interview, Kennedy denied she had any "nanny gate" problem and said that her husband, Edwin Schlossberg, was very supportive and that they lived together with their children.

Thursday, Paterson issued a statement in which he said Kennedy's decision "was hers alone" and that he hadn't ruled out any candidate before she withdrew.

5. I don't know what he was thinking
He managed to piss of the Clintons, Kennedys and the Cuomos - not the way to get ahead in NY politics. I say Andrew Cuomo takes his job - unless he runs for Senator.

2. She withdrew, why is he kicking her when she is down?
What a nasty thing to do.

The OP is a diehard CK supporter. If you check out what he's been posting lately, you'd see that he's done is trash Petersen, et al.

3. She handled herself poorly? Pot meet kettle.
Talk about botched intros, I barely know about Paterson other than the fact that his marriage is messed up. Now I know he stinks at the process of picking Senators.

4. A person not authorized to speak for the governor...
is supposedly the source while Paterson himself puts out a statement saying Caroline's decision to withdraw was hers alone and that he hadn't ruled out any candidate.

7. Perhaps, every year, governors with "appointment" privileges
should be required to list 3 people, in order..people they would choose to replace a senator, should the need arise.. and then have that sealed envelope locked away until the need arose.. It would remove a lot of drama..:)

these could be pre-vetted people who could step in at a moment's notice without a lot of fanfare & fallderall..

8. Paterson did exactly what he said he would do months ago -
pick once Clinton was confirmed, and try to appoint an upstate, female and/or hispanic candidate. He's been very steady in this, while folks like Bloomberg and Clinton allies were battling it out in the press.

10. She withdrew, she won't be Senator.

If you can't accept CK isn't going to be Senator, perhaps it's time for you to just leave.
