Joseph Lowry does not support marriage equality. I don't know why people think he does, but he doesn't.

4. The Church/State separation issue has been pushed WAY back
The new 'discussion' seems to be WHICH church should represent the state.

:puke:

6. Obama hasn't talked about representing "most of the people".
Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 07:50 PM by mycritters2
He's talked about representing ALL of the people. Some of the people are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and their allies. They...that is, we... deserve to be included.

9. Yeah, that won't happen. At the Inaugural or anywhere Obama is,
apparently. Or any of his clergy friends.

11. I was told something interesting once in a sociology class...

During the time of the Civil War, the South loved their slaves and felt close to them. The North wanted to free the slaves, but they also wanted to keep the black community at an arms distance. I don't know how true this is, but it might explain the type of thinking that leads to segregation and ghettoization.

During the fight over Prop 8 the Yes on 8 people seemed to be admitting that it was ok for gays and lesbians to have equal rights, just not marriage rights. We are still segregated from a large part of the Christian community, and many of us have lived in "ghettos" where we feel more accepted. Is Lowry's church the North and Warren's church the South, by analogy? After all, Warren will gladly reach out to gays and lesbians if they want to try to "convert" to heterosexuals.

12. I wonder if any GLBT couples will actually dance together
at one or more of the Inaugural Balls? And if they do, will they be asked to leave?

13. Just for the record, NEITHER DOES BARACK OBAMA.
I disagree with all of them on this issue but I will continue to cheer Obama on while also working to change his perspective.
