Or disappointed in not getting named to one.

Just one direct quote.

2. WAPO...
Less than a week after Obama's victory last month, Dean announced he would not seek a second term as DNC chairman -- a decision cast by those friendly to Dean as his own but made with a recognition that the incoming president would like his own pick atop the party.

Dean then made a play to be secretary of health and human services in the Obama administration but was quickly shot down in favor of former senator Tom Daschle of South Dakota, a confidante of the president-elect.

3. I would hope that if Dr. Dean expressed an interest in a Cabinet position
that he would have received due consideration. I'm of the opinion that he just wants a break from the hurly burly of the past four years, but that's just an opinion. I have tremendous respect for him, but to assign sinister motives to Obama's administration, without evidence, is just counterproductive.

Until I hear Dr. Dean say that he was dissed by Obama, I choose not to speculate.

5. Uggh. Another BS manufactured controversy
Obama knows who Dean is. I'm sure he respects Dean's work. Dean was not chosen. People need to move on and stop instigating a "beef" where there is none.

6. I think Dean was interested in the HHS job but not anything else
Almost anywhere else appropriate that Obama could have stuck him would probably be below his pay grade. And yes that includes Surgeon General.

8. In another thread people were also asking for "direct quotes"
Edited on Fri Jan-09-09 09:43 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
and part of this was also in my response there.

I googled Howard Dean Obama Cabinet and got lots of results. Some MSM , some blogs, etc.etc.

It seems that it was often reported/conjectured that Dr. Dean was highly desirous of the HHS cabinet position. Now before anyone begins screaming for the "source" where Dr. Dean himself says this - I can tell you that it does not exist. Just as one does not exist for HRC saying she really wants to be Secretary of State and there is probably not one for anyone else who is being appointed to anything BECAUSE THAT IS NOT HOW IT'S DONE when you are in contention for a post. Sorry, for the people who can only believe anything if it comes from the horses mouth - most horses don't seem to be talking.

For another example, I was unaware that apparently John Kerry really wanted SOS. I found an article where a "staffer"( that's right, it did not say "Kerry staffer Ernestine Glutz") is quoted as saying he "was crushed" when he didn't get it. Do you really think John Kerry himself is going to go around saying "I really wanted SOS and I am completely crushed and disappointed that I didn't get it."?

Personally, I find all these demands for "named" sources and direct quotes as being either completely disingenuous or the people making the requests don't do a lot of reading. In a post above dkf links to a WaPo article about Dean being a victim of his own success and it makes the statement that he was interested in HHS. You can take that or leave it, but it is a credible newspaper that does actual reporting using the time-honored and accepted technique of getting their information from unamed sources.
