Can someone point me to the Panetta as CIA Chief threads?
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 03:59 AM by FrenchieCat
I'm finding a lot of threads about Obama and his Getpa Surgeon General Choice, but not very many about Leon Penetta as CIA Chief.

I know that for about 5 years, DU has ran a host of threads criticizing the CIA and how it was ran, and their messed up Intelligence and their torture...

Meanwhile, there has never been a thread about the any given specific Surgeon General and what he/she does until today.

There were 20 Surgeon General threads in GDP today and 9 of them on GD.

There were 9 CIA Chief threads in GDP (most having to do with DiFi) and 14 on GD since yesterday.

To me, that is hella strange considering the history of DU and torture and the CIA,
and the non history regarding the Surgeon General and anything he/she ever said or did.

2. I saw that one yesterday.......
But thank you.

I'm surprised there aren't more of those.....as it would follow the theme that I am picking up here.

4. I don't think it has been officially officially announced yet

and DU is pretty much event driven.

I've been following CIA / rendition / torture pretty closely and I think the Panetta choice is a good one. The man isn't afraid to take things on. He fought the oil companies for our CA coastline. He knows how the Hill works and he knows how the Executive works. Maybe he can bring back some of the disgusted CIA people who left because they couldn't stand the corruption.

3. IT is amazing how just about everyone who ever worked

for the Clintons and implimented that President's policies, is now considered the cause of the results. Kinda of interesting.

I'm glad you like Panetta....as I consider him a top notch pick for an important position. Compared to some of the other position, CIA Chief is more of an independent agent type of position, i.e., can do a lot of damage regardless of who the President is.

5. Well, Blair on his own decided not to stop supporting the massacre
in East Timor even after he received orders to do so.

Clinton created the climate, that's true, but Blair also acted on his own.

7. There was a Gupta-Michael Moore dust-up
around here when that incident happened on CNN. Otherwise, I understand what you're saying.

I also remembered today that half the Democratic Party voted for Hillary. Ooooh, yeah, maybe that is why he is giving the Clintonites 50% of the cabinet.

8. Or it might be because only Clintonite Democrats have actual
Government experience. Considering our dire straights, perhaps he realizes that the smaller the learning curb the better for the Country.

Personally, I don't consider all folks that worked any of the 8 years of Clinton's administration to have leprosy. Hell, maybe I would have worked there, had I had a chance. I would hope that wouldn't Blackball me for the rest of my life. That's what Bush did with the Baathist Party in Iraq...which is why that whole experiment didn't work out so well. They called it de-Baathification of the Government. De-Clintonizing the American Government might not have worked any better.

9. I agree, generally
But there are better choices for just about every single position he has named. I think everybody he named will do fine, I just didn't expect so many Clinton retreads. But if he's also considering where the party is, that half of them voted for Clinton, then it makes a little more sense that he would go down that line. The Clinton half will accept whatever he proposes a lot more quickly from Clintonites than they would new people they don't know. Why not knock off half the fight before you even begin. Makes sense to me.

11. I think the reason he is pulling so many Clintonistas is because they
were and apparently still are public servants unlike the industry flacks bush appointed.

It says a lot about the former Clintonistas that in spite of having prospered in the private sector since leaving the Clinton Administration, that they are willing to come back to government to straigthen out bush's messes. Obama recognizes that they have the experience to undo what bushco has done and he's smart enough to tap them. I applaud them all. :applause:

14. There are 2 great threads in the video section. I recommended both.
One is Obama defending his choice of Panetta. The other is Rachel Maddow with Bob Baer discussing why Panetta is a great choice.

15. See the text box in the upper right corner of the website?
Type "Panetta" in there and hit search.
