1. He's seriously going to name someone? Does he realize that person will never be a Senator?

9. I, Roland Burris. He always used to refer to himself in the 3rd person.
I, Roland Burris, am honored to accept this opportunity to serve in the U.S, Senate. Roland Burris has always tried to do what is best for the good people of the state of Illinois. Etc.

4. link: Blagojevich to name Burris to Senate
Gov. Blagojevich today is expected to name former state Comptroller and Attorney General Roland Burris to Illinois' vacant U.S. Senate seat, a knowledgeable source said this morning.

A news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m.

10. I see Roland Burris is on Blago's Board of Advisors in this 2002 photo.

Then Governor-elect Rod Blagojevich introduces his board of advisors, including Roland Burris (to the governor's left) in November 2002. (Tribune file photo / Chuck Berman)

5. And the winning bid IS...??
I mean, it should be a matter of public record, right? What's the going rate for one junior United States Senate seat from Illinois, gently used, previous occupant now POTUS?

8. I always thought Burris did a good job in public office
He was comptroller when I lived in IL about 20 years ago, and I don't remember anything bad ever said about him. I remember his campaign slogan was "Continue the Excellence", which to my mind spoke loads about him. Maybe Blago decided to appoint someone relatively clean to the post?

11. Jim Warren just called him the "quintessential Democratic machine party...hack".
Very uninspiring pick, says Warren, given the number of highly qualified people available.

20. Who is Jim Warren?
I lived in Illinois in the 70s and 80s and dabbled in politics then--heard of Burris, but have never heard of Warren. And I did hear of who was shady and who was clean back then.

12. No one Blago appoints will be allowed in the Senate. It doesn't matter how clean they are.

13. The Senate doesn't have a say
This has been to the Supreme Court twice -- Powell v. McCormack and Thornton v. U.S. Term Limits. Both time the court said congress can't reject someone who meets the constitutional qualifications of age and residency.

22. Burris has been lobbying for the senate seat even after blago was arrested.
He's the only one who's doing this.

BTW if anyone is interested check out Chicago's African American talk radio station streaming live www.wvon.com .

23. Burris accepted the appointment which means he should not get to keep it.
Anyone with a shred of ethics would distance themselves from Blago, but this guy sits there, smiling and accepts the appointment? WTF? He must be as delusional as Blago and for that reason Burris should be denied the Senate seat.
