Poll question: What should President-Elect Obama do with regard to the 93 US Attorneys?

Edit to add Wikipedia link regarding history, method of appointment, and Bush's US Attorney "scandal."

2. Keep Jim Letten
Eastern District of Louisiana appointed in 2001. A very good man who should remain in his job.

3. I think he should let them all go and make new appointments.
The DoJ needs to be sandblasted.

4. I think he pretty much has to keep Fitzgerald at least in the beginning
Otherwise, he opens himself up to charges that he is playing politics or covering something up by pulling Fitzgerald off the Blago case, and potentially off of other corruption he might find in Obama's home state.

6. Nope - his appointment ends with the Bush presidency.
Obama would not be removing him.

9. There is a difference between perception and reality
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 02:03 PM by joeglow3
Perception rules and the majority would consider it as Obama removing him.

13. Funny how the soon to be previous administration never had
this 'perception rules' issue, even when they conducted an outright purge of their own DA's to get rid of the ones who were not playing ball by their new rules. Even as they outright obstructed and stone-walled all attempts to investigate what actually happened. Heck, the prior regime could and did commit acts that quite possibly amounted to treason, and perception never seemed to rule.

Your concern is noted. Every one of the DAs should go out the door. If there are some who are honest, they can be invited back in.

5. Wipe the slate clean and start over.
These are all four year appointments that are each new administration's to hand out.

7. What's the deal with Mueller? He seems to expect to stay

8. The FBI is a power unto itself.
"Directors of the Federal Bureau of Investigation are appointed by the President of the United States. They have to be confirmed by the United States Senate and serve ten year terms."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_of_the_Federal_Bureau_of_Investigation

So this is out of Obama's hands until 2011 or so.
