Anyone watching cspan-2? The auto bail out did not pass.
Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 11:13 PM by yourguide
Update: got to 52 yays. Will not be voted on again until next year.

Debbie Stabenow speaking now and is pissed. She acknowledges the votes arent there.

This is no joke people. The Republicans will not let this pass.

Reid was talking about adjourning and says if it does not pass the bill is dead for the year.

Side note: the dollar is dropping like a brick.

1. When does the new Senate get sworn in? January 3rd?
They should reconvene then and pass the House bill. Hopefully it will not be too late.

Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 11:19 PM by BreatheOnMe
She has been doing a great job of trying to help the automakers. Sen. Stabenow was on Rachel Maddow's show and gave a very good explanation of why it's necessary to help the US auto companies. She has been working hard and hopefully the car companies will get the loans they need.

21. What wimp?
Are you talking about Harry Reid? The man has done everything he can possibly do to get this bill through. The Dems and the auto workers have compromised and compromised. The Repubs hate the unions and will see one of our main manufacturing industries go down the tube just to try to do in the unions. Don't be blaming Harry Reid. Blame people like Shelby and Ensign and all the Repubs who still think this country is conservative but what country will we have left?

30. They may only need 59 votes if that makes any difference
The rule is 3/5 of the Senate, not 60 votes. Since there are only 99 senators right now 3/5 is 59.4. Does anyone know if that rounds down to 59?

I bet Obama wishes he hadn't resigned his Senate seat yet...of course, he thought it would give Illinois an advantage by giving the new Senator a little bit of extra seniority.

Is Biden there to vote?

39. Out of 87 present and voting
And it was really 53 because Reid changed his vote to no for procedural reasons. So it was more than 3/5, and Senate rules say 3/5 of senators present and voting, not a hard 60 votes. So technically it should have passed...can someone explain that to me?

Ford may be able to scrape along

Stock Market below 6000 before long...

Republicans in Congress now believe their own bullshit which is very dangerous...and none of them have a stake in this...they aren't going to lose their jobs anytime soon...and unless they have an American auto plant in their state their reelection isn't in jeopardy...so they don't really give a shit
