Shinseki's Farewell Address: WOW
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 08:20 PM by Perky
Upon leaving his post in June 2003, Shinseki in his farewell speech sternly warned against arrogance in leadership.

''You must love those you lead before you can be an effective leader,'' he said. ''You can certainly command without that sense of commitment, but you cannot lead without it. And without leadership, command is a hollow experience, a vacuum often filled with mistrust and arrogance.''

3.  It is clear who he had in mind when he said this.
Although the remarks have general applicability,it is hard to think that the General wasn't thinking about the current resident of the WH. One of the things that has struck me as W's main trait is his disassociation from the human costs that resulted from his tragic, stupid decisions.

5. Shinseki will go down in history as one of the few heroes of the last 8 years.
He said what many knew had to be said, but lacked the courage to say.

7. Kudos to Shinseki and Kudos to Obama for appointing him head of Veterans' Affairs!
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 08:45 PM by amborin
Shinseki was unafraid to speak the truth about the Iraq invasion, and he suffered reprisals for speaking the truth: forced retirement/resignation.

He's had the last laugh, many times over; unfortunatly it's cost over 4,400 U.S. troops' and at least 800,000 Iraquis' lives.

16. It's a devilish pick wouldn't you agree? It's a big FU to the Bush neocon death cult
It emphasizes just how wrong the Republican death cult were and how O gets it right. Obama is waving a giant middle finger at Bush and his people.

This is gonna be fun.
