"the breakthrough came after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi bowed to a demand by President Bush"
Anybody else tired of hearing this phrase?

Why does a lame duck continue to win every battle against the Speaker of the House?

(CBS/AP) After weeks of tense discussions with the heads of the U.S. auto industry, Democratic Congressional leaders have reached an agreement that may just clear the way for the Big Three to get the money they need to survive ... for now.

CBS News correspondent Kimberly Dozier reports that significant progress came Friday night, when Democrats from both the House and Senate agreed to bail out the struggling General Motors, Chrysler and Ford with federal funds.

Several officials say the White House and congressional Democrats have agreed on $15 billion in loans, which is less than half of what the car chiefs were seeking.

They say the breakthrough came after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi bowed to a demand by President Bush that any aid come from a fund that had been intended to help Detroit produce more fuel-efficient cars.

Pelosi said the House would consider legislation next week to provide "short-term and limited assistance" to the U.S. auto industry.

1. Who will they kowtow to come January?
Reid and Pelosi will have to work hard at figuring out how to not take charge.

2. Pelosi has been in bed with Bush for over 2 years, most likely because of her knowledge of torture
It probably has something to do with her being one of the only Congresspersons who was made aware by the CIA of waterboarding torture several years ago and she never did squat to put an end to it. Then when all hell busted loose about it, it was too late for her to admit she knew about it all along. She knew if she didn't jump into bed with Bush that they'd expose her for her silence on the matter.

5. Uh, he would support her original plan
So there would be no "eating" necessary. Pelosi had the right idea, keep moving forward with the retooling - and take any short term money from TARP.

7. Oh she caved
I'm saying that there wouldn't be any caving necessary with a Dem President because they'll agree 90% of the time. The difficulty will be with the Blue Dogs and that is where we should be organizing our efforts.

4. Bush "won" because he doesn't give a damn about people
suffering. Ideology is more important to him than the plight of the economy. Pelosi knows that Obama will support a bailout and the thing to do now is to get some money to the auto industry to keep them afloat until he takes control. Bush's power is rooted in his willingness to be unreasonable. People can count this as a win for him, if they want. I just chalk it up to W's venality and lack of connection with reality.

8. It's like a high speed game of chicken

But the "person" in the second car is actually a crash test dummy with a cememnt block on the gas. Someone has to flinch first or both go up in flames. The dummy can't feel anything at all, and if it did it possibly feels it has nothing to lose because it's.... well a dummy, the other driver actually has a stake in the future of its car and acquiesces to get something rather than be consumed in the carnage as well.
