2. Well, the citizens of Arizona (and those of us with ties to the state) kinda look at it that way.

While Janet may be well worthy of a cabinet position, it would be a serious setback for Arizona, which has been slowly trending blue, replacing her with a right wing neocon, and assuring Grandpa McCain of an easy reelection next year. :evilfrown:

Instead, the Secretary of State is next in the line of succession. And she's a rabid right winger. No election... she would just finish out Janet's term, and then be positioned as the incumbent to run on her own in 2010. Meanwhile, McCain probably would have no real opposition for his senate seat. Right now Janet is polling ahead of him even though she is not a declared candidate.
