Quid Pro Quo'd
Hillary as SOS - Why?

1. Bill made quite a miraculous turn around, didn't he? From lukewarm, very lukewarm, to enthusiastic during the
end of the general election campaign.

2. Obama thought of Hillary as a good manager - methodical - good at getting things done. If this was not a quid pro quo
for her enthusiastic support - he would have offered her something more in line with her expertise - administrative in
nature - rolling out health care.

3. Clinton is diametrically opposed to Obama's big picture thinking on foreign relations. Richardson, for instance,
is much better suited as a soul mate on diplomacy first.

1. Could he really have thought of her as a good manager?
Could anyone have looked at Clinton's campaign from the outside, and thought of her as methodical?

I think she's smart, charismatic and widely loved. That may be enough, when she reports to Obama.

2. Good at getting things done (on a Senate level) vs managing the State Dept are
two entirely different things. Plus, what were her great accomplishments while she was in the Senate?

3. I was just trying to make the point that I can't imagine O looking to
her as a brilliant foreign policy visionary. Either he is the visionary and just wants someone to carry out his vision - or
he had to promise it to her.

4. Sure looks like a quid pro quo. Back to old school politics.

Not the change I was looking for. But it is what it is.

5. Yep. But maybe we can look on the bright side - there are still
tons and tons of lukewarm Obama supporters out there who absolutely loved her so maybe this
would bring them on board. Coalition building - mandate.

6. Could be. I have no special insight but from where I sit, it don't look good. I just hope
that the meme that is going around, that Obama knows what he is doing, is on target. Guess I have been around the block one too many times in life.
